Bob Grunsky of Luther Riverside Terrace, Saskatoon, SK (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), passed away on Friday, July 9, 2010, at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon. He was 85 years of age. Bob was born to Michael and Louise (nee Hall) Grunsky on September 29, 1924, at home on their farm in the Baytrail district, south of Humboldt. He was well-known in Humboldt as he owned and operated Grunsky Moving and Cartage, a dray and moving business, for many years, finally selling his business in 1974 due to health reasons. Bob completed his working career as a custodian at Humboldt Collegiate Institute, and spent many of his spare hours in the shop honing his carpentry skills. His woodworking projects included toys, furniture, ornaments, and bird houses. Other favourite pastimes were curling, walking, and going for drives around the countryside. A valuable contributor to the Humboldt and District Museum over the years, he had a great interest in and was very knowledgeable about the community he lived in. Indeed, his sense of community was very important to him. Bob spent many summers with family members at Marean Lake, and everyone wanted to go out in his boat when they went fishing because Bob caught the fish; he knew the spots and had the technique. More than anything, he will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family, as well as his strong work ethic, honesty, integrity in both his personal and business life, and his cheerful willingness to help anyone at any time. Bob is survived by three daughters and nine grandchildren: Joan (Mark) Hill of Vancouver, BC, and family, Matthew, Amber and Janelle; Katherine (Gerald) Knox of Sherwood Park, AB, and family, Courtney, Reid, Connor and Drew; and Patty (Daryl) Therres of Saskatoon and family, Madison and Mitchell; five sisters and three brothers: Marg McKenna of Summerside, PEI; Ann (Louie) Ethier of Prince Albert, SK; Edith Ruddock of Swift Current, SK; Hank Grunsky of Lethbridge, AB; Jim Grunsky of Prince Albert, SK; Louise O'Connor of Agincourt, ON; Evy (Gary) Rice of Regina, SK; and Gary (Annie) Grunsky of Whitehorse, YT; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Bernice (nee Koskie) Grunsky (January 26, 2005); parents, Michael and Louise (nee Hall) Grunsky; and by his brother, John Grunsky. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Wednesday, July 14, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Emile April. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Humboldt and District Museum. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to SCHULER-LEFEBVRE Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK. (306-682-4114)
