NORDICK: Raymond "Ray" Bernard

August 10, 1932 - January 28, 2014

"It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Raymond "Ray" Bernard Nordick of Englefeld, SK. His death occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Ray was met at heaven's gate by his beloved family: his parents, August Sr. and Mary (nee Beck) Nordick; grandson Regan Rioch; son-in-law Randy Rioch; brothers: Arnold (Bobbi) Nordick, and Art Nordick; sisters: Helen (Al) Breker, Ida (Andy) Schmitz, Louise (Ron) Bohnen; twin siblings (in infancy); and brothers-in-law: Ted Moldenhauer, Don Diebert and Gordon Fetter. During Ray's 81 years of life, he was a loving husband for 58 years to Marie (nee Doell) Nordick. Together they raised a family of eight children: Kathy (Jerry) Stein of Saskatoon, Bev Rioch of Englefeld, Randy (Holly) Nordick of Olds, AB, Janice (Mike) Herperger of Esterhazy, Keith Nordick of Saskatoon, Allan (Stacey) Nordick of Watson, Rhonda (Darren) Dame of Chestermere, AB, and Bruce (Rhonda) Nordick of Watson. Ray and Marie were also blessed with 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish Ray's memory are four sisters and one brother: Cis (Ed) Wacholtz of Watson, Marie Moldenhauer and Mildred Diebert, both of Saskatoon, Bill (Hazel) Nordick of Kitchener, ON, and Diane Fetter of Watson; sister-in-law, Alice Nordick of Humboldt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and members of the Doell family. Ray was raised on a farm east of Englefeld and continued farming until 1996. His Grade 8 education sure didn't limit him when it came to the farm or attaining the passing marks required to be a crop adjuster. Ray served as a councillor for the RM of Spalding for 17 years, sat on the board for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a self-taught mechanic and a handy man of all trades, with special interests in carpentry. Ray enjoyed playing and coaching hockey, and was always up for games of smear, cribbage and 65. He loved fishing and telling a good story as well as supervising the family working in the garden. Winters were spent with Marie in Osoyoos, BC, where they enjoyed memorable moments with their friends. Ray always made any visitor welcome. He eagerly shared "his" wine and Marie's good cooking. Ray was no ordinary flower in life's bouquet. "Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight." (Rossiter Worthington Raymond [1840-1918]. The family extends an invitation to say goodbye to Ray as he crosses the horizon. The Prayer Service for Ray was held at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Englefeld, on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., led by Patsy Knafelc and Audrey Zimmerman. Scripture readers were Stacey Nordick and Rhonda Nordick, and the eulogy was delivered by Bruce Nordick and Kathy Stein. The Funeral Mass was offered at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church on Monday, February 3, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Darryl Millette. Others taking part were: Dawson Rioch, crossbearer; Randy, Keith, Allan and Bruce Nordick, urnbearers; Janice Herperger and Rhonda Dame, scripture readers; Ray's grandchildren, intentions; Bev Rioch, Meagan Thacyk and Trisha Rioch, giftbearers; Danny and Laurie Breker and John and Dolly Bannerholt, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by the Holy Guardian Angels Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Ray's life". An honor guard was formed by members of the Knights of Columbus. Interment followed at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Cemetery Fund or the Humboldt District Hospital Spiritual Care Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
