The passing of Raymond Johnson of Humboldt, SK, occurred on Friday, April 10, 2015, at the age of 72 years. Raymond was born to Yvonne and Fred Johnson of Val-d’Amour, NB, where he grew up on a farm near there, and also attended school. At age 15, Raymond started working at The Hotel Dieu Hospital in Campbellton, NB where he worked for three years in laundry, kitchen and then as an orderly. In 1967, he came to Lanigan, SK to sink the shaft at Alwinsal Potash. On December 31, at a New Year’s Eve dance, Raymond met Ruth Lachmuth and they were married on August 4, 1969 at St. Anne’s Church in Annaheim, SK. On July 2, 1970, Robert, their son, was born. They spent many summer vacations at Waskesiu, SK, or travelling to Campbellton to see Ray’s brothers and sisters. Raymond loved the Montreal Canadiens and followed all their games, and he also loved to go golfing. He had a passion for music, and played the piano, guitar and harmonica and spent many hours at jam sessions with other musicians. On November 13, 2000, after 30 years of employment at P.C.S. Lanigan, Raymond retired. In April of 2004, Raymond and Ruth moved to Charlo, NB to spend some time with his brothers and sisters. In May of 2006, they returned to the prairies, to Humboldt. He loved his family and was a gentle caring man. Raymond is survived by his wife, Ruth of Humboldt; son, Robert of Saskatoon; two brothers, Antoine (Simone) Johnson, and Armand (Bertha) Johnson; one sister, Marjorie (Jacques Levesque) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Marina Johnson and Annette Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; and also by Ruth’s family, brother- in-law, Art Koenders, niece, Charlene (Jim) Moellenbeck, and special great-niece, Emilie Moellenbeck. He was predeceased by his parents, Yvonne and Fred Johnson; sisters, Maria (Lionel) Levesque and Rita (Henri) Levesque; brothers, Arthur Johnson and Harvey Johnson; niece, Johanne Johnson; and by Ruth’s parents, Joe and Ann Lachmuth, and sister-in-law Eileen Koenders. The Funeral Mass for Raymond was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., con-celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah and Fr. Richard Meidl, OSB. Others taking part were Peggy Becker and Doug Chisholm, scripture readers; Doug Chisholm, intentions; St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir, music ministry; and Dick and Diana Blechinger, memorial table attendants. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Ray’s life. Active pallbearers were Bede Frank, Grant Hoffmann, Kelly Kunz, Richard Norman, Ted Menzel and Dave Wesling. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to Humboldt District Hospital Foundation or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
