The peaceful death of Mrs. Phyllis Mary Perry (nee Steeg), 77 years of Humboldt, occurred on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon with her family by her side. Phyllis was born on February 4, 1938 in Humboldt to Louis and Isabelle (nee Flory) Steeg. She attended St. Augustine Elementary School and then on to high school, graduating from Humboldt Collegiate Institute in 1955. Following graduation, she enrolled in Psychiatric Nursing in Moose Jaw. After a year, she left there, returning to Humboldt to work as a Medical Receptionist at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the Humboldt Medical Clinic. On November 4, 1961, Phyllis married Ed Perry at St. Augustine Church in Humboldt. They had three children and continued to live there after Ed’s retirement from Sask Power Corporation.Ìý In previous years she was involved as a 4-H leader and was a leader for Girl Guides. She was very active in the Humboldt Figure Skating Club, having coached for some six years. Phyllis was instrumental in organizing the first Ringette club in Humboldt along with Lou Zintel. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ladies Auxiliary and St. Augustine CWL, as well as volunteering at the hospital as a Communion distributor. Phyllis actively helped out with many other community organizations, such as St. Mary’s Villa Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels, Humboldt Food Bank, Good Neighbour Store and the Exercise Program with the Ursuline Sisters. For Phyllis, her family was number one and she always enjoyed every visit as well as attending recitals, soccer games, ringette games, hockey, lacrosse, or whatever activities her grandchildren were involved in. Phyllis leaves this message to her family: “Thank you for the many years I have had to be able to share and be a part of all my family’s lives and thankful I was able to let them know how much they all were lovedâ€. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 53 years, Ed Perry of Humboldt; three children: Jeff (Rachelle) Perry of Weyburn, SK; Jana (Conrad) Mitchell of Edmonton, AB; and Tom (Kristen) Perry of Bel Air, Maryland, USA; 10 grandchildren: Emily, Brooke, Devin, McKinley, Rebekah, Kennedy, Josh, Lindsey, Morgan, and Brady; two brothers and four sisters: Bob (Doris) Steeg of Biggar, Richard (Joan) Steeg of Okotoks, AB, Rose Fisher of Regina, Marj (Don) Brockman of Humboldt, Isabelle (Russell) McConnell of Saskatoon, and Grace Kuiack of Saskatoon; sister-in-law, Gwen (Art) Peck of Penticton and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Isabelle Steeg; four brothers and two sisters: Louis (Lil) Steeg, Phillip (Ila Mae) Steeg, Irvin (Agatha) Steeg, Ted (Marg) Steeg, Irene (Roman) Rauw and Mildred (Paul) Ballendine, brother-in-law, Ambrose Kuiack, and special great niece, Heather Haeusler. The Funeral Mass for Phyllis was held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
