EBERL: Peter Francis

December 17, 1922 - May 9, 2014

The death of Mr. Peter Francis Eberl of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, on Friday, May 9, 2014. He was 91 years of age. Peter was born on December 17, 1922, to George and Cordula (nee Hermle) Eberl at home on their farm in the Marysburg district. When he was still quite young, the family moved to the Burr district where he attended Morvin School. From there, the family relocated to a farm near Archerwill and Peter attended Marneau Lake School. He and his brothers farmed the homestead at Archerwill until 1975, when they moved into Humboldt. Since the Eberl family was new in town, Sr. Cecelia Klassen, OSE, was a very helpful, kind and supportive friend and guided them through numerous difficult times. They were very appreciative of her. Peter worked for the Sisters under Home Care for about four years. He was then employed at St. Elizabeth's Convent doing maintenance work for seven years. A talented jack-of-all trades, he enjoyed doing odd jobs. After retiring, Peter still worked at some of the Sisters' houses and for other people in Humboldt as well. A fan of country music, Peter especially enjoyed listening to Wilf Carter. Christianity was of utmost importance to him; he was a man of very strong faith and attended Mass regularly. Peter is survived by one brother, Joe (Evelyn) Eberl of Calgary, AB; three sisters: Walburga Brink of Saskatoon, Mary (Gerald) Bjorgaard of Prince George, BC, and Clair (Peter) Rogers of Ottawa, ON; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George Sr. and Cordula (nee Hermle) Eberl; four brothers: Theodore Eberl, Oswald (Isabelle) Eberl, Leonard Eberl and George (Katie) Eberl; and by brother-in-law, Jens Brink. The Funeral Mass was offered on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Scripture readers were Sr. Philomena Dobmeier, OSE, and Terry Struck, and intentions were led by Sr. Philomena. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Peter's life". Active pallbearers were: Todd Hagenes, Jake Hagenes, Tye Hagenes, Brian Pugh, Melvin Saretsky, Wallace Hornle, Sr. Viola Bens, OSE, and Sr. Louise Krupka, OSE. Interment followed at Assumption R.C. Cemetery, Marysburg, SK. Memorial donations may be directed to either St. Mary's Villa or the Humboldt District Hospital General Equipment Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
