The death of Mr. Osmond Foy of St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt Sask. occurred at his residence on Monday, February 29, 2016. Osmond was born on Tuesday, June 3, 1919 at Richmond, Sask. At the age of five, he moved to Verndale, Sask. with his parents Hubert and Esther Foy. Osmond and his two younger sisters, Marion and Idella, attended Selmond School in Verndale. As a boy, Osmond was an active member of the community, enjoying all sports, especially hockey and baseball. He also became interested in building toys during the winter months of the 1930’s. One obstacle he had with this hobby was that he had no hacksaw to cut iron with, and he had no money to buy one. One summer, he went trapping gophers on the lake shore for which he received two cents for each tail from the Municipal Office. It took 18 gopher tails to pay for his new hacksaw which he purchased from the Eaton’s catalogue. Throughout his youth, Osmond helped his parents on the farm, and in 1940, he bought land and began farming for himself. In 1953, Osmond married Victoria (Vicki) Bomberak. Osmond and Vicki lived on the Foy family farm where they raised their five children. Throughout the years, Osmond was an active member of the Verndale community as a board member of the Selmond School and the Community Hall. After Vicki passed away in 1985, Osmond moved to Humboldt where he resided until his passing. Osmond married Mary Cochrane in 1996 who passed away later that same year. Osmond’s passion for farming continued throughout his retirement years. After Osmond’s health diminished, he moved to St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt where he spent the last years of his life. Osmond will be lovingly remembered by: son-in-law Greg Gorsalitz (Judy Dwinnell), Bobbi Behiel and Keith Gorsalitz (Joelle Adams); Maureen (Fred) Gorsalitz, Sarah (David) Roth and Dan Gorsalitz; Sharon (Reg) Prodahl, David (Jada) Prodahl, Kim (Sheldon) Moorman and Brian Prodahl; Irvin (Darlene) Foy, Lindsey (Dallas) Korte, Kristin (Brent) Berscheid, Aaron Foy (Darcie Haeusler) and Michael Foy; Laurie (Ward) Meyer, Cole Meyer and Mark Meyer, along with 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Osmond was predeceased by his parents Hubert and Esther Foy; his first wife Vicki; his second wife Mary; his daughter Colleen Gorsalitz; sisters Marion Johnson and Idella Pfeiffer. The funeral service for Osmond was held at Westminster United Church, Humboldt on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. led by Rev. Brenda Curtis. Others taking part were: Barb Knittig, scripture reader; Darlene Lung and Karen Pfeiffer, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by the Westminster United Church Choir.
