Murray Schlosser

February 24, 1938 - November 18, 2012

It is with profound sadness that the family of Murray Schlosser of Humboldt, SK, announces his death on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, SK. He was 74 years of age. Murray was born on February 24, 1938, to William and Margaret (nee Schriml) Schlosser at Cudworth, SK. He was raised on the family farm at Breman and attended Leofeld School. Due to the premature death of his father, after completing Grade 8, Murray quit school to help on the farm. On October 29, 1960, he married Lorraine Eckl. Murray and Lorraine began their life together on a farm which they organized and built themselves near Bruno, SK. Their union was blessed with three sons: Earl (1961), Darcy (1963), and Darren (1965). An ambitious and hard-working man, as well as farming with the constant help of his wife in all aspects of the farming lifestyle, which they both enjoyed together, Murray was employed at the Colonsay Potash Mine and, on the side, also did a lot of carpentry work, for which he had a natural talent. In the early 1990s, Murray and Lorraine sold the farm and moved to Martensville, SK, where Murray was a devoted caregiver to Lorraine until her death in 1995. After that sad occasion, he left Martensville and lived in various places, including Saskatoon, Choiceland and finally Humboldt, where he had continued to reside since the early 2000s. A true "people person" who was caring and thoughtful, Murray was always ready and willing to help others. He will also be remembered for his good sense of humor and how he loved to make people smile and laugh. More than anything, Murray was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His life revolved around his family and he was always there to support them. He absolutely cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were #1 in his eyes. Murray will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his three sons and nine grandchildren: Earl Schlosser of Regina, SK, and family, Crystal (Adam) Buckingham, Mandy (Jody) Jorgensen, Melinda (Caleb) Schlosser/Paik, and Jarrod (Heather) Hrebeniuk; Darcy Schlosser of Carnduff, SK, and family, Bradley Schlosser and Deanna Schlosser; and Darren (Donna) Schlosser of Lloydminster, AB, and family, McKenzie Schlosser, Tyler Schlosser, and Samantha Schlosser; seven great-grandchildren; special friend, Thea Meyer of Humboldt, SK; four brothers and one sister: Andrew (Annie) Schlosser, Alphonse (Marge) Schlosser, Phyllis Schlosser (Jim Frey), Dennis Schlosser, and Reg (Ellie) Schlosser; sister-in-law, Irene Schlosser; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine (nee Eckl) Schlosser; grandson, Tyler Earl Schlosser; parents, William and Margaret (nee Schriml) Schlosser; brother, Wilfred Schlosser; and by sister-in-law, Evelyn Schlosser. The Prayer Service for Murray was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., led by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Scripture readers were Mandy Jorgensen and Carol Fleischhacker, and the eulogy was delivered by Mark Seidel. Music ministry was provided by organist Kathy Phillips. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Bruno R.C. Church, Bruno, SK, on Friday, November 23, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Deanna Schlosser, crossbearer; Mandy Jorgensen and Adele Zimmer, scripture readers, Arlene Tataryn, intentions; Crystal Buckingham, Melinda Schlosser, McKenzie Schlosser, Tyler Schlosser, and Samantha Schlosser, gift bearers. Music ministry was provided by organist Denise Krentz. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Murray's life". Active pallbearers were Adam Buckingham, Caleb Paik, Jarrod Hrebeniuk, Heather Palen, Jody Jorgensen, Bruce Bodnarchuk, Bradley Schlosser, and McKenzie Schlosser. Interment followed at St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Kinsmen Foundation, 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 6A8. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
