Mr. Michael “Mike” John Becker of Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Fulda, SK), passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015, at Humboldt District Hospital. He was 92 years of age. Mike was born on August 4, 1922, to Michael and Julia (nee Wolf) Becker at home on the family farm in the Carmel district. He was raised there and attended Highgate School in the area. Following his education, Mike worked on the family farm. In 1952, he met the love of his life, Caroline Kohnle at his sister’s home in Carmel. They were married on August 3, 1953, in St. John’s R.C. Church, Willmont and were blessed with seven children, four daughters and three sons, however, a daughter and a son died in infancy. In 1955, they moved to Fulda, where they bought and operated the hotel for the next 29 years, until they retired. They moved to Humboldt in 1998, where they have resided together until the present. In his leisure time, Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, and watching sports on television. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs. For miles around, Mike was well-known for the delicious sausage he made and sold. He was a “people person” with a wonderful sense of humor and always had a good joke to tell. Mike loved having company and everyone who stopped by received a warm welcome. His greatest pride and joy were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he treasured time spent with them. Mike will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Caroline (nee Kohnle) Becker of Humboldt; three daughters, two sons, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren: Sharon Nienaber of Humboldt and family, Christopher Nienaber (Jade) of Humboldt and their children Tyson, Ryder and Cooper, and Kaylee (Tyler) Dust and their children Keegan and Aria; Allan Becker (Kathy Becker) of Humboldt and family, Alyssa (Trent) Siegel of Lloydminster and their children Kaydence, Khylar and Everley, Amanda (Chad) Waldbauer of Humboldt and their children Terex and Ava, Kara Becker of Humboldt, and Matthew Becker of Saskatoon; Colleen (Brian) Fleischhacker of Humboldt and family, Chelsea (Chris Whiteside) of Saskatoon, and Nikia of Saskatoon; Donna (Lee) Weber of Morinville, AB, and her family, Dayton Klashinsky (Megan) and their daughter Alexis of Humboldt, Jill (Yvon) Charrois of Legal, AB, and their daughters Kalli and Brynn; and Sheldon (Peggy) Becker of Cudworth, SK, and family, Shelby and Jarod; two sisters: Julia Engele and Elizabeth Pfeil, both of Humboldt; in-laws: Bernice Becker of Watson, Rose Kohnle of Trempeleau, Wisconsin, and Marion (Roman) Suer of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter Shelley (in infancy); one son Darrel (in infancy); two sons-in-law: Melvin Klashinsky and Francis Nienaber; parents, Mike and Julia (nee Wolf) Becker; step-mother, Anna Ehalt-Becker; two brothers: Johnny Becker (in infancy), and John Becker; sister, Anne Engele; three brothers-in-law: Henry Engele, Albert Engele, Roman Pfeil; father-and-mother-in-law, August and Mary Kohnle; step-father-in-law, Leonard Kohnle; brother-in-law, Henry Kohnle; and by a sister-in-law (in infancy). The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., concelebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB and Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB. Others taking part were: Duane Becker, crossbearer; Chelsea Fleischhacker and Jill Charrois, scripture readers; Alyssa Siegel and Shelby Becker, intentions; grandchildren, giftbearers; Merle Daskalchuk and Marlene Hovorka, memorial table attendants. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Mike’s life”. Active pallbearers were Ron Engele, Ralph Engele, David Engele, Neil Becker, Keith Pfeil, and Glenn Suer. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Joseph’s R.C. Cemetery Fund, Fulda, SK. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
