It is with great sorrow, yet fond memories, that the family announces the peaceful passing of Mavis Rose (nee Nelson) Campbell of St. Mary鈥檚 Villa, Humboldt, SK (and formerly of Govan, SK) at her residence on Friday, July 10, 2015. She was 88 years of age. Mavis was born to Douglas and Molly (nee Ferguson) Nelson on October 5, 1926, at home on their farm near Gibbs, SK. She was raised there and, after completing Grade 11 at a school in the area, Mavis attended Normal School (Teachers鈥� College) in Moose Jaw. Afterwards, she taught at Ash Leaf School, a one-room country school east of Govan. On June 30, 1947, she married William 鈥淏ill鈥� Campbell in the Govan United Church. They began their life together on their farm southwest of Govan. Mavis and Bill鈥檚 union was blessed with two children, a son and a daughter. Mavis鈥� life revolved around her family. She was a very fulfilled, happy, and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She worked tirelessly helping her husband in all aspects of the farming lifestyle, articulately managed her domestic chores and, most importantly, tended to the needs and nurturing of her children, raising them with unconditional love and instilling ethical life-long lessons. Attention to detail in housekeeping and personal appearance were always a must. As well, her culinary skills were second-to-none; she could whip up a scrumptious meal seemingly out of nothing in a short time, and was known for the plentiful and delicious 鈥渢ail-gate lunches鈥� the family shared out in the field during seeding and harvest. Mavis鈥� homemade bread, buns and chocolate chip cookies were simply the best! In 1961, the Campbells built a new house in Govan where they resided during the winters. A very community-minded person, Mavis served in some capacity with various organizations, including Lakeshore Homemakers, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Rebekah鈥檚 Lodge, and the Govan United Church. Upon retirement from farming, Mavis and Bill spent much of their time travelling throughout Canada and the United States visiting family and friends, as well as spending the winters in Arizona. Other favorite pastimes Mavis enjoyed were curling, scrapbooking, listening to music, and watching football. She was an avid Roughrider fan and had season tickets for many years. As the family expanded to include grandchildren, Mavis took an active interest in their lives, and derived much pleasure from following their activities and accomplishments. Bill passed away in 1992. Mavis continued to reside in Govan until 2009, when she moved to Humboldt. In 2013, failing health necessitated a move to St. Mary鈥檚 Villa, her home until the present. Throughout her life, Mavis had a strong, yet gentle and quiet faith, and lived by the Golden Rule. She took great pride in everything she did, and leaves a beautiful legacy for her family to cherish. Mavis will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two children: Jim (Christine) Campbell and Heather (Murray) Albers: four grandchildren Jeff (Carrie) Campbell, Kurtis (Chandy) Albers, Kristopher (Katie) Albers, and Charity (Jeff) Goring; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Barry (Bernice) Nelson; brother-in-law, Don Field; sisters-in-law, Jannice Nelson, Ida Campbell, and Sandra Campbell; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Campbell; parents, Douglas and Molly (nee Ferguson) Nelson; two brothers: Rodney Nelson and Murray Nelson; one sister, Mary Field; and by five brothers-in-law. The Celebration of Mavis鈥� Life was held at LifePoint Pentecostal Church, Lanigan, on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Kevin Sawatsky and Pastor Randy Paupst. Others taking part were: Faith Albers and Elizabeth Albers, scripture readers and memorial table attendants; Jim Hatcher and Ian Attfield, ushers. Sentimental and humorous tributes from Mavis鈥� grandchildren were read by Kurtis Albers and the touching eulogy was delivered by Charity Goring. Music ministry was provided by pianist Brenda Bowman and vocalists Kevin and Rachelle Sawatsky and Char Schroeder. Honorary pallbearers were Barry Nelson, Don Field, Sandra Campbell, Ida Campbell and all others who shared in Mavis鈥� life. Active pallbearers were Jeff Campbell, Kurtis Albers, Kris Albers, Charity Goring, Kevin Nelson, and Dale Campbell. A Private Family Interment Service followed at Govan Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Mary鈥檚 Villa Foundation or the Govan Cemetery. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
