Mathilda "Tillie" SaretskyMay 17, 1921 - June 9, 2011The death of Miss Mathilda "Tillie" Saretsky of Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Richlea, SK), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Thursday, June 9, 2011. She was 90 years of age. Tillie was born on May 17, 1921, to Bernard and Anna Saretsky at Humboldt. Due to her father's employment with the railroad, her family moved many times. In 1932, the family settled in Richlea, SK, (near Eston), where Tillie continued her schooling. She completed Grade 10 and then worked at a local cafe for two years. In the late 1930's, Tillie began housekeeping, domestic duties, and babysitting for Joe Martin. In 1943, she began a 27-year employment with a general store in Richlea. In 1970, Tillie moved to Humboldt, where she made her home with her brother, Leo, and her sister, Margaret. She began working at the Red and White Store, and then at the Shop Rite for Brian Loose, until she retired in 1986. She remained living in Humboldt until the present. Tillie had a passion and talent for her flower gardens, she enjoyed playing card games of smear, whist and rummy with family and friends, and she also enjoyed bingo. Her faith was very important to her, and Tillie was known to attend regular daily Mass as much as possible. She did a bit of traveling, including to Vancouver, and several trips were taken to various religious locations that honoured the Blessed Virgin Mary. Tillie enjoyed staying close to home and taking part in celebrating many family milestones, such as birthdays, anniversaries and other events. Tillie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by one brother and one sister: Leo Saretsky and Dorothy Hall, both of Humboldt; one sister-in-law, Helen Saretsky of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her father, Bernard Saretsky; mother, Anna Saretsky; three sisters: Agnes (Joe) L'Henaff, Margaret Saretsky, and Threasia (Lou) Brassard; two brothers: Frank Saretsky, and Tony (Carmel) Saretsky; four siblings in infancy: Frances, Ann, Rita and Bernard; by brother-in-law, John Hall. The Prayer Service for Tillie was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Monday, June 13, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., led by Lois Weninger and organist Dolores Hinz. Scripture readers were Tom Saretsky and Maureen Weber, and the eulogy was delivered by David Hall. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 2:30 p.m., concelebrated by Fr. Emile April and Fr. Matthew Ramsay. Others taking part were: Terry Saretsky, cross bearer; Nick Schweighardt and Bill Bergermann, altar servers; David and Geri Hall, scripture readers; Gerard Saretsky, intentions; Helen Saretsky and Ann Hermann, gift bearers. Music ministry was provided by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Tillie's life." Active pallbearers were Ken Hall, Ben Hall, Tom Saretsky, Greg Saretsky, Vincent Saretsky and Gerard Weber. Interment followed at the St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Augustine Parish Building Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK.
