WATSON, Mary

February 6, 1938 - December 18, 2012

The death of Mrs. Mary Watson of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. She was 74 years of age. Mary was born on February 6, 1938. She spent the years of her childhood and early adulthood in Toronto and Montreal, and fondly talked about her favourite school, Cote-Des-Neiges in Montreal. At the tender age of 16, Mary left home to join the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Fighter Control Operator. Mary married young and was blessed with five children. A very articulate, well-read lady, Mary was a talented writer, and loved classical music, classic movies, and live theatre. She also enjoyed gardening, home decorating, sewing, knitting, cooking and baking. Her faith was an integral part of her life; she was a Benedictine Oblate with Christ King Monastery in British Columbia and with St. Peter's Abbey in Muenster, SK. Mary felt drawn to the prairies and never wanted to leave. Her cherished treasures were her children with each and every child being a gift of God bringing joy to her life. Mary will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her three daughters and one son: Nina (Wayne) Hamelin of Telkwa, BC, and children Wendy, Philip, Emma, Robert, Mark and Laura; Anita Charles and son, Trevor of Delta, BC; Michael Charles (fiancé Cheryl) of Langley, BC; and Rachael (Al) Ernst of Prince Rupert, BC; and unknown family members. Mary was predeceased by her son Marc (1982), her mother, Margot (1980) and her step-father, Chuck Pople (1989). A Prayer Service for Mary was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Friday, December 21, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., officiated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB, organist, Br. Anthony Nguyen, OSB, cantor, Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB. Scripture readers were Nina Hamelin and Marian Vidotto and the eulogy was delivered by Rachael Ernst. The Funeral Mass was offered at Muenster Chapel, Muenster, on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB and Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB. Others taking part were: Alan Ernst, cross bearer; Rachael Ernst and Torinda Geenen, scripture readers; Nina Hamelin and Br. Basil Schaan, OSB, gift bearers; and Lillian Hinz, intentions. Honorary pallbearers were Torinda Geenen, Doreen Pape, Marian Vidotto, Irene Zimmerman, Karen Pfeiffer, Frances Lessmieister and Carol Muyard. Active pallbearers were Craig Larson, Neil Adam, James Folster, Ted Geenen, Leo Zimmerman and Br. Basil Schaan. Interment followed at St. Peter's R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Peter's Abbey. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
