FREISTADT - The peaceful death of Mrs. Mary Freistadt (nee Germain), 86 years of Carmel occurred on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Humboldt District Hospital. Mary was born on July 21, 1925 to Lawrence and Malvina (nee Kosokowsky) Germain on the family homestead in the Wolverine district. She attended Hillsley School, completing grade 8. She worked at the Grant Hotel in Moose Jaw for awhile, as a housekeeper for the Sawatzsky family for a number of years and then at the Carmel Post Office. In 1954, Mary married Eugene Freistadt at Carmel, which is where they made their home and raised their family of three children. She then worked at the Carmel School, retiring at age 65. Mary was an active member of the Carmel CWL, participating in their many activities through the years. She enjoyed gardening, collecting dolls, watching curling, baking, card making and watching her hummingbirds. Eugene and Mary spent many afternoons visiting with family and friends. She enjoyed nothing more than a family gathering with the cooking, eating, game playing and sharing her great sense of humour. She was noted for her wonderful homemade buns and their home was always open for coffee and a bun. Above all, Mary was very proud of all of her family and loved them all dearly. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her three children, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren: Murray (Trudy) Freistadt of Regina and family, Amanda Freistadt of Edmonton, AB, Natasha Freistadt of Regina, Joshua (Lindsay) Freistadt and daughter Hailey of Edmonton, Ché Freistadt of Regina, Devin and his daughter Valen, and Shannon and her son Garrett; Valerie (Vernon) Engele of Carmel and family, Vanessa (Kevin) Mollenbeck and son, Caleb of St. Gregor, Megan (Dustin) Ebner of Carmel and children Ethan and Lahna, and Nicole Engele (fiancé,Brett Heebner) of Estevan; and Germaine Freistadt of Saskatoon; three sisters: Emma Schidlowsky of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, Loretta (John) Greer of LaSalle, ON, and Genevieve Doetzel of Humboldt; sisters-and-brothers-in-law: Margaret Germain of St. Albert, AB, Eleanor Germain, Evelyn Zerff and Julie Fraess, all of Humboldt, Philip Freistadt of Bruno, Arnold (Bernice) Freistadt of Saskatoon and David (Audrey) Freistadt of Humboldt. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Eugene Freistadt (Nov. 7, 2010); parents, Lawrence and Malvina Germain; son-in-law, Dr. Eric Bodenstab; brothers: Leo Germain, Fred Germain, and Rudy Germain; sisters: Agnes (Nicolas) Witt, Anne (Roman) Stumborg, Madeline Germain and Theresa (Gabe) Kloschinksy; brothers-and sisters-in-law: Walter Kennedy, Lorne Davis, Rudolph Schidlowsky, Arthur Doetzel, Peter Zerff, Leo Fraess, Eleanor Freistadt and Olivine Freistadt. The Prayer Service for Mary was held on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, Bruno. Scripture readers were Audrey Freistadt and Annette Engele and the eulogy was given by Amanda Freistadt. The Funeral Mass took place on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part in the mass were: Crossbearer, Vanessa Mollenbeck; Scripture Readers, Vernon Engele and Josh Freistadt; Intentions, Roland Engele; Eucharistic Minister, Genevieve Doetzel; Gift Bearers, Nicole Engele and Natasha Freistadt; Music Ministry, Annie Moritz and the St. Bruno Choir; Memorial Table Attendants, Frances Schidlowsky, Marian Fraess and Clara Freistadt; and Urnbearer, Valerie Engele. Honorary Pallbearers were "All those who shared in Mary's life". Interment followed in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carmel, SK. Memorial Donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, Humboldt District Hospital Foundation or St. Bruno Renovation Fund. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt, SK
