WENDT: Margaret Lucy

The passing of Margaret Lucy (nee Hutcheon) Wendt of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, SK, and formerly of Humboldt, SK, occurred at her residence on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at the age of 97 years. Margaret was born on February 6, 1917, in London, England but immigrated to Canada in 1918 and settled in the Canwood, SK area. In 1920, the family moved to a farm in Manitoba to the Wakopa district and this is where Margaret attained her education. Unfortunately, in 1925, her mother passed away. From 1927 until 1937, she was sent to school in Winnipeg. After this, Margaret moved back to Saskatchewan to work in the Canwood area and this is where she met her husband to be, Harry Wendt. They were married on October 5, 1938, in Shellbrook, and from there, they moved numerous times in the Humboldt, Middle Lake and Hoey area while working as a farm labourer. From 1941 to 1947, during the war years, they resided in Canwood, where Harry was enlisted in the army. After the war, they moved to Prince Albert, Middle Lake and St. Benedict, where Harry once again worked as a farm labourer. In 1970, they ran a restaurant in St. Brieux, and in 1979, they moved to Mortlack, where they retired. Another move was made back to St. Benedict in 1986. In 1990, Harry passed away, and so in 1991, Margaret made her home in Humboldt. Margaret was active with the Legion and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and took part in bowling and cribbage tournaments. She was Head of the Guardian Angels, and a member of the Golden Rule United Church in Humboldt. Margaret enjoyed passing time with knitting, crocheting and making tablecloths. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her children: Maryanne Cartwright, Charles (Gerda) Wendt, Harry (Linda) Wendt, Margaret Korosi, Hazel Brown, John (Pat) Wendt, Marion Blandin and Herman Wendt; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Wendt; her parents, Charles and Lucy (nee Bazley) Hutcheon; children: Katheran (George) Leray, Donna (Art) Boisclair, Joe Wendt, Allen Wendt (in infancy), Dora (Allan) Erickson; daughters-in-law: Diane Wendt and Shirley Wendt; sons-in-law: Frank Korosi, Ken Brown, Ed Blandin and Dennis Meidl; grandchildren: Alice Korosi, George Leray, Jason Wendt and Larry Leray; and great-grandson, Austin Straub (in infancy). A Funeral Service for Margaret was held at Westminster United Church, Humboldt, on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. Others taking part were: Rev. Al Hingley, scripture reader; Joan Jackson, organist; and Thea Meyer and Verla Hinz, memorial table attendants. The eulogy was delivered by Angie Lindbloom. An honor guard was formed by members of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary and the Humboldt Guardian Angels. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Margaret's life, especially the staff at the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge". The urnbearer was Marion Blandin. Interment followed at the Humboldt Public Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge Fund or the Westminster United Church Fund.
