KLASCHINSKY: Magdalene "Helen"

The death of Mrs. Helen Klaschinsky of Humboldt, SK, occurred at St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, on Monday, July 28, 2014. She was 97 years of age. Helen was born on July 11, 1917, at home on the family farm in the Carmel district to Valentine and Elizabeth (nee Kosokowsky) Froess. She attended school in the Carmel district and after her schooling, she helped work on the family farm. On November 5, 1934, Helen married Albert Klaschinsky at Conception Church in Carmel and they were blessed with seven children. Helen worked as a cook in various places in Humboldt but her last place of employment was at St. Elizabeth's Hospital until her retirement. Her favorite pastimes were spent crocheting, bowling, dancing, and of course, baking and cooking. Helen was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent her last remaining years at St. Mary's Villa. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her children: Irene Riedel of Saskatoon and family, Diana (Ivan) Shewchuk and children Evan and Brenden; Rick (Leanne) Riedel and children Caitlyn and Carly; Vivian Shymko of Humboldt and family, Glen (Kristen) Shymko and children Alyssa and Alanna; Darren (Tara) Shymko and children Brayden and Mandee; Brenda (Michael) Swityk of Spiritwood and family, Larissa (Ryan) Conacher and children Taylor, Avarie and Ciara; Alanna Swityk; Landon Swityk; Viola's family: (Edward Berting) and family, Calvin, Percy, Derrik and Bernadine; Freda Curle's family: Wayne, Connie and Sandra; James' family: (Gaylene, wife) Klaschinsky and family, Ryan and Colleen; Daniel's family: (Beatrice, wife) Klaschinsky and family, Donna (Bruce) McGonigal and daughter Amy, Katherine (Levi) Langley and daughter Jayda, Crystal Klaschinsky (special friend Pete Gustafson); and many great-grandchildren; four sisters and five brothers: Agatha Struck, Amelia Hummel, Celina Koehler, Theresa (John) Matiakis, John Froess, Peter Froess, Tony (Lavina) Fraess, Albert (Virginia) Froess and Clemence (Lorraine) Fraess; one brother-in-law, Dave McClelland; two sisters-in-law: Marian Froess and Josephine Konner; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Klaschinsky; children: Viola Berting, Freda (Ken) Curle, James Klaschinsky and Daniel Klaschinsky; sons-in-law: Klaus Riedel and John Shymko; parents, Valentine and Elizabeth (nee Kosokowsky) Froess; five sisters: Ann (Wendil) Klaschinsky, Mary (Tom) Gouldhawke, Cecelia (Roman) Struck, Olga McClelland and Elizabeth (Mark) Struck; brothers-in-law: Ervin Struck, Edward Hummel and Fred Koehler. A Funeral Mass for Helen was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Others taking part were: Landon Swityk, crossbearer; Alanna Swityk, intentions; Larissa Swityk-Conacher and Katherine Langley, scripture readers; Lorne and Thelma Gasmo, giftbearers; Dolores Hinz, organist; St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir, music ministry; and Diana Shewchuk, memorial table attendant. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Helen's life". Active pallbearers were Evan Shewchuk, Brenden Shewchuk, Ivan Shewchuk, Rick Riedel, Glen Shymko and Darren Shymko. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Mary's Villa or St. Augustine Parish Fund.
