BERNAL:Magdalene

Magdalene (Maggie) has had a very interesting and happy life. She was born on February 3rd, 1931 to Fred and Christine (Tetzlaff) Novecosky in the small country town of Gull Lake, SK. The family then later settled in Burr. Maggie often descriptively recounted her happy childhood adventures and daily happenings. Happy, carefree and busy, were words often used to describe her childhood. She was the eldest of nine children. Maggie displayed a musical, artistic, and literary talent at a very early age, which would lead her down that path. She attended Deer Lake School at Bay Trail. Later Attica School where she finished grade 10. She then boarded in Muenster and took grade 11 at Monastery School. Then to the Ursuline Academy in Bruno for grade 12 where she graduated. She then began to study music. Maggie finally realized her life long dream of completing her piano studies. In 1955 after intense study and practice, she received her A.M.U.S. (Associate in Music from the University of Saskatchewan.) She began teaching in 1951. She later left the convent and moved to Banff to study ART at the Banff School of Fine Arts. She also took up residency in Vancouver, Regina, and Montana, throughout the years ultimately setting in Humboldt to raise her only daughter Noelle. Maggie literally taught 100's of children during her 50 years of teaching. She was an extremely gifted and developed musician, artist and writer, who even had a few pieces of her work published. She was also known for her razor sharp "photographic" memory. Her adventurous spirit took her traveling all over the world. She especially loved traveling to Europe every summer in her later years. Vancouver was also a favorite destination to visit her daughter Noelle, son-in-law Nick, and three granddaughters, Athena, Elektra and Olympia whom she loved and completely adored. Driving around town and exploring the Saskatchewan countryside in her Vintage Volkswagen Van, was another favorite pastime of hers. Maggie also loved planting her garden, cooking, writing and researching her family history. She knew the life history of all her family, as well as all of her extended relatives and beyond. Visiting with friends and family, and documenting her days in her diary were also very important to her. Maggie was a sweet, kind, generous, gentle, good natured soul who loved to laugh and smile. She loved the crisp cold winters and glowing sunshiny summers. Hummingbirds, cats, rainbows and the moon were also a few of her favorite things. She possessed a soft spot for all nature and animals. Maggie's family was extremely important to her. "Family ties are precious things woven through the years, of memories, of togetherness, of laughter, love and tears." Maggie will be truly missed by all she encountered and impacted throughout her 83 years of life. "We all LOVE you to the moon and back, and even more than that". She will belovingly remembered by her daughter, Noelle(Nick) Nikas and three granddaughters, Athena, Elektra and Olympia, all of Vancouver, BC; seven brothers and sisters: Sr. Theresa Novecosky of Saskatoon, Albert Novecoski of Vernon, BC, George(Theresa) Novecosky of Humboldt, Sr. Claire Novecosky of Brazil, Elsie(Ron) Oakman of Vancouver, BC, Ervin(Rita) Novecosky of Humboldt and Jim(Laura)Novecosky of Lanigan; and by numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Maggie was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Christine Novecosky; a sister Hilda and two siblings in infancy, Agnes and Anthony.
