MABEL ANN LUKENOFF (née Konkin) May 30, 1920 - July 14, 2011. The family of Mabel Lukenoff are saddened to announce her passing on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Humboldt, Saskatchewan at the age of 91 years. Mabel was born to Alex and Mary Konkin on May 30, 1920 at their farm northeast of Watson, SK. She was one of nine children and attended nearby Daisy School. She married John Lukenoff on February 25, 1937. John and Mabel had two boys who both passed away in infancy. They initially lived on a farm in the Watson District. In 1944, they moved to Oliver, BC where they lived and worked in an orchard for two years. In 1946 they returned to their farm near Watson. Eventually, they bought a house in town and spent winters in town and summers on the farm. During these years Mabel worked as a cook at the Watson Union Hospital. Mabel was a member of the local Canadian Order of Foresters and helped out with girls' minor ball in town. In 1967 they sold their farm and built a new house in town. John and Mabel enjoyed singing in their local prayer home choir, road trips to visit relatives in BC and bus tours to the US. John passed away on September 20, 1994. In 1998 Mabel moved into a suite at the Sunshine Manor, a housing complex for seniors in Watson. In the summer of 2007 Mabel moved to the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge care home in Watson. Mabel was predeceased by her husband John; her parents, Alex and Mary; sisters, Polly, Annie, Dora, Mary and Florence; brothers, John and George. She is survived by her brother Alex Jr. of Nanaimo, BC and numerous nephews and nieces. Many thanks to the staff at Quill Plains Centennial Lodge care home in Watson and the Humboldt District Health Complex for their loving care, patience and devoted kindness during her stay there. A private funeral service with family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19 at Watson New Horizons, Main Street, Watson, SK.
