WEYLAND: Lloyd Edward

August 10, 1954 – May 27, 2015

Lloyd Edward Weyland of Humboldt, SK, passed away at Humboldt District Hospital on May 27, 2015, following a long and courageous struggle with illness, with his family at his side. Lloyd was born on August 10, 1954 to Arnie and Delphine (nee Herman) at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Humboldt. He grew up on the family farm just outside of Bruno where he attended school and his love for sports started. In his early years, Lloyd enjoyed playing sports such as broomball, football and baseball. Pitching was his favorite position. When he could no longer pitch, he continued his love of baseball through coaching and later, umpiring. After moving to Humboldt, Lloyd learned martial arts earning black belts. He successfully competed and later taught martial arts throughout the local surrounding areas. Lloyd supported the community in numerous ways such as serving as president of the Humboldt Broncos. He was also an ambassador for Humboldt through his leadership roles with the Saskatchewan Association of Licence Inspectors and Bylaw Officials and the Saskatchewan Building Officials Association. In his younger years, Lloyd was a successful salesman earning awards with Chrysler Canada and Labatt’s. He received the Master Member of the Chrysler Salesmen’s Guild award that recognized him as one of the top 50 salesmen across Canada and earned him a trip to Bermuda. Lloyd was honoured to have worked as the Bylaw Enforcement Officer for the City of Humboldt for 30 years. He took great pride in knowing that he was contributing to the well-being of the community; Lloyd sincerely took his job to heart and was very passionate about it. Respect, integrity, honesty, common sense, and fair play were important to him. He was a humble man in many ways that most did not see. Lloyd enjoyed coffee with the guys, working out at the gym (a.k.a. socializing), fishing at the cabin, and playing Kaiser. He was a great storyteller, loved teasing people, and had a great sense of humour. Lloyd was very proud of his children and all of their accomplishments. He will always be known for his love of family, friends and community. Lloyd will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 28 years, Helen (nee Pozniak) Weyland; their three children: Jay Weyland, Maria Weyland, and Cody Weyland; his mother, Delphine (nee Herman) Weyland; and many relatives of the Weyland, Herman and Pozniak families. He was predeceased by his father, Arnold Weyland. The Prayer Service for Lloyd was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 7:30 p.m., led by Janice Dobmeier and organist Darlene Cash. Scripture readers were Cindy Anderson and Julia Reid, and the eulogy was delivered by Peter See. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Others taking part were: John Michael Pozniak, crossbearer; Mary LeBlanc and Julia Reid, scripture readers; Peter See, intentions; Kathy Ursu and Al Back, giftbearers; Gisele Classen and Heather Albers, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Lloyd’s life”. Active pallbearers were Rodney Ursu, Arden Herman, Barry Herman, Joe Dutchak, Norbert LeBlanc, and Gerry Buchacher. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
