DEMERS: Leon Edouard

March 9, 1924 - February 5, 2014

The death of Mr. Leon Edouard Demers of Caleb Village, Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Middle Lake and Prince Albert), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. He was 89 years of age. Leon was born on March 9, 1924, to Lucien and Rose Marie (nee Arcand) Demers at Titanic, SK. In 1942, he joined the Regina Rifles and served his country overseas for four years during the Second World War. Leon returned home in 1946 and worked for SaskPower. On June 27, 1952, he married the love of his life, Genevieve "Genny" Cote in Saskatoon. In 1965, they were blessed with a son, Perry. Leon and Genny bought the Middle Lake Hotel in 1975. As well, Leon worked on the natural gas pipeline until retiring in 1989. More than anything, Leon and Genny adored spending time with their grandchildren. They also took pleasure working in their yard and garden. As well, Leon and Genny took many trips to Prince Albert, where they enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino. To their delight, in May 2008, Prince Albert became their home. They resided there for almost three years. Leon and Genny were always on the go; wherever you saw one the other was close by. Leon was heartbroken when, on January 14, 2011, his precious Genny passed away. Leon returned to Middle Lake and resided with Perry and his family until moving into Caleb Village in September 2012. Leon will be remembered with love by his son, Perry (Lisa) Demers of Middle Lake and family, Steven Demers (Ashley Korniski) of Prince Albert, Gregory Demers (Jolene Lang) of Saskatoon, and Ashley Demers of Middle Lake. He was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve "Genny" (nee Cote) Demers (January 14, 2011); parents, Lucien and Rose Marie (nee Arcand) Demers; one brother, Arthur (Theresa) Demers; and by one sister, Lucienne (Phillip) Chasse. The Funeral Mass for Leon was offered at Canadian Martyrs R.C. Church, Middle Lake, on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. George Chatholil. Others taking part were: Ashley Demers, crossbearer; Blake Peters, scripture reader; Darlene Peters, intentions; Jolene Lang and Ashley Korniski, giftbearers; Steven and Gregory Demers, urnbearers; Rhonda Baker, music ministry; Riley Hauser, memorial table attendant. An Honor Guard was formed by the Royal Canadian Legion Humboldt Branch No. 28. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Leon's life". Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to either the War Amps of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
