The passing of Kenneth Ralph Hermiston of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at his residence on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the age of 87 years. Ken was born October 17, 1927 in Winnipeg, MB. He grew up on a farm just south of Mozart, SK. He graduated from grade 12 at the top of his class, and then headed to Ontario to work for one year as a farm labourer. Ken returned home to begin work with the CPR. He and Dorothy met while he was working as a telegrapher for CPR in Provost, AB. They were married in 1948 and lived in Wilkie, then Kerrobert for nine years. Their children Wendy, Dave and Heather were born in Kerrobert. Ken finished his career with CPR as station agent in Dafoe. It was while living here that Lynanne was born. In 1961, Ken began working with the Co-op retail system. He retired in 1988 in Neepawa, MB, where they lived for over 30 years. Ken and Dorothy moved to Humboldt in 2011 and they celebrated their 65th Anniversary this year. Ken was a loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. Kenneth will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy (nee England) Hermiston of Humboldt; his children: Wendy Hermiston of Regina, SK, and family, Ken (Jennifer) Samways and daughter, Charlotte of Langley, BC; David (Myrna) Hermiston of Unity, and family, Lisa Hermiston (Marcel Pelletier) of Saltcoats, SK, Aaron (Megan) Hermiston and daughter, Avery of Battleford, SK; Heather (Perry) Miller and family, Chad Miller, Randi Miller (Rhett Blach) and son, Lachlan all of Regina; and Lynanne (Dale) Avison of Humboldt, and family, Amie (Sebastiaan) van Garderen and daughter, Shaylynne of Langley, BC, and Jennifer Avison (Wendel Nordin) of Oxbow, SK. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Marjorie Hermiston; and a brother, Bobby Hermiston (in childhood). A Funeral Service for Kenneth will be held at Westminster United Church, Humboldt, on Monday, December 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. Music ministry was provided by Tanya Wuchner and the Westminster Church and Community Choir. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Kenneth’s life”. Urnbearers were Chad Miller, Aaron Hermiston and Ken Samways. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to a charity of your choice.
