With much sorrow we say goodbye to a dedicated wife, loving mother and caring grandmother. Kay left this life peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, with family at her side, at the age of 85 years. Kay was born on February 22, 1930 to Karl and Eva (nee Neiszner) Borschowa in Weyburn, SK where she grew up and also attended school. At a young age she moved to Humboldt and on May 28, 1951, she married Ludwig Freistadt at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Weyburn. She spent 64 years with her partner and soul mate Louie and together they made many good friends. Kay worked as an egg candler for Western Produce, secretary at Campbell Wilson and Miller, co-owner at Carmel and Muenster Hotels, and was also a homemaker. She was involved in the community and volunteered for many groups; she belonged to the CWL and St. Augustine Home and School Board. Kay was an artist in many crafts: some of her favourites were crocheting, German folk art painting, Christmas ornaments (which we all have to decorate our trees). She enjoyed bowling, ball, curling, square dancing and on many cold winter days, played cards with friends and family. Kay enjoyed watching figure skating and curling on TV. She was an avid gardener and an excellent cook. Nobody went away from her house hungry and everyone who came to the house was welcome to sit down for a meal. To this day, we still carry on many of Kay’s traditions. Out of all her accomplishments in life, she was the proudest of her family and was always there to support us all. She was a kind and gentle lady. Kay had many health issues throughout her life but that didn’t stop her, she kept on going. We will meet again—we know you are at peace with God and Family. Kay will be lovingly remembered by her husband Louie Freistadt; her children: Donna (Murray) Germaine and family, Charlotte (Sacha) Fritz and children Fiona and Maximilian, Janice Germaine (Matt Hoffman), Joanne Germaine (Terrence Dumont) and children Tanner, Jordyn and Taylor; Garry (Brenda Weber) Freistadt and family Katherine (Mike) Broadfoot and children Mikayla and Neely, Sarah (Frank) Badinski and children Reece and Francis, Steven Freistadt, Maria Freistadt; Clayton (Noreen Zilkowsky) Freistadt and family Robert (Shaena) Freistadt and daughter Danica, Kevin Freistadt (Gillian Gratton); sister-in-law Minnie Borschowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and in-laws Mike (Betty) Freistadt, Genevieve (Leo) Desjarlais and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Karl and Eva (nee Neiszner) Borschowa; her in-laws Leo and Helen (nee Zerff) Freistadt; her siblings: Marie (Mike) Schneider, Barbara (Stephen) Schultz, Regina (Leonard) Engebretsen, Karl Borschowa, Peter (Ann) Borschowa, Lena (Manny) Schilling, Max (Ruth) Borschowa, Elizabeth (Ross) Bernard, Frank (Margaret) Borschowa, and three brothers in infancy. A Prayer Service for Kay was held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. presided by Nestor Trach. The organist was Denise Germaine and the scripture readers were Sarah Badinski and Charlotte Fritz. The eulogy was delivered by Joanne Germaine. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Friday, February 27, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. con-celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah and Fr. Emile April. Others taking part were Maria Freistadt, crossbearer; Noreen Freistadt and Brenda Freistadt, scripture readers; Robert Freistadt, intentions; Donna Germaine, Garry Freistadt and Clayton Freistadt, giftbearers; St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir, music ministry; Loretta Schugmann, director; Denise Germaine, organist; and Shirley Shewaga and Audrey Freistadt, memorial table attendants.
