HUESER, Joseph Louis

January 7, 1930 - December 26, 2012

The death of Mr. Joseph "Joe" Louis Hueser of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at his residence on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. He was 82 years of age. Joe was born on January 7, 1930, to Leo and Katherine (nee Freriks) Hueser at home on their farm in the St. Bernard district. He grew up there and attended St. Bernard Rural School. After completing Grade 7, Joe stayed home to help on the family farm and also worked on neighboring farms. On October 21, 1952, he married Gertrude "Gertie" Grieman in St. Joseph's R.C. Church near Fulda. During the first year of their marriage, they resided with Gertie's parents in Humboldt. While living there, Joe helped with the building of the post office. In August of 1953, Joe and Gertie were blessed with the birth of their first daughter Gwen and, sixteen months later, they were blessed again with the birth of their second daughter Debbi. The Huesers moved to a farm two miles north of Humboldt. Joe was employed as an elevator agent for Searle Grain for eight months, the R.M. of Humboldt for 11 years, and a trucker and bookkeeper for Imperial Oil for 18 years. The whole countryside knew Joe from delivering fuel to their yards. In addition, he farmed two quarters of land as a hobby. In the late 1970s, due to failing health, Joe retired. In his leisure time, he loved playing the mandolin, violin and guitar, curling, bowling, and fishing. Joe also had a talent for crafts, especially leatherwork. Although he liked going on holidays, he loved his home and much preferred being there, where he was most comfortable. Joe was a very family oriented man, who loved his children and grandchildren very dearly. On September 21, 1998, Gertie passed away. Joe continued to live on the farm until 2009, when he became a resident of St. Mary's Villa. Visits from his grandchildren and their families were always the highlight of his day and he cherished each get-together they had. Joe will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his two daughters and nine grandchildren, all of Humboldt: Gwen (Gary) Schlacter and family, Tracy (Curt) Bells, Colin (Britany) Schlacter, and Regan Schlacter (Tiffany Peters); and Debbi Barnes and family, Corri (Erin) Barnes, Jennifer (Scott) Frank, Pam (Aaron) Saretsky, Kristin Barnes (fiancé James Stuckel), Cynthia Barnes (fiancé Craig Martin), and Michael (Briana) Barnes; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Christine Luke and Clara Threinen, both of St. Rose, MB; and Veronica Wourms of Saskatoon; two brothers: George (Darlene) Hueser of Saskatoon; and Jerome Hueser of Pilger; sisters-in-law: Bernice Hueser of Preeceville; and Rita Hueser of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude (nee Grieman) Hueser (September 21, 1998); one son and three daughters, all in infancy; son-in-law, Bryan Barnes; parents, Leo and Katherine (nee Freriks) Hueser; two brothers: Tony Hueser and Isadore Hueser; and by brothers-in-law: Werner Luke, Wilfred Threinen, Lawrence Wourms, Fred Grieman, and John Grieman. The Prayer Service for Joe was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., led by Nestor Trach and organist Darlene Cash. Scripture readers were Britany Silzer and Erin Barnes, and the eulogy was delivered by Pam Saretsky. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Monday, December 31, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth. Others taking part were: Morgan Frank, crossbearer; Logan Saretsky and Ashton Saretsky, altar servers; Anita Lenuik, bookbearer; Tracy Bells and Aaron Saretsky, scripture readers; Ayden Frank and Cole Bells, intentions; Cyndi Barnes and Abigail Martin, giftbearers; Briana Barnes, Avry Barnes, Kassandra Frank, memorial table attendants. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Joe's life". Active pallbearers were Corri Barnes, Michael Barnes, Jennifer Barnes-Frank, colin Schlacter, Regan Schlacter, and Krissi Barnes. Interment will take place at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Mary's Villa Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
