Von DoellenDecember 3, 1930 - November 30, 2011 The death of Mr. Josef von Doellen occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. He was 80 years of age. Joe was born in Lutten, Germany and attended school there till grade eight and then attended Trade School for carpentry. In 1954 he immigrated to Canada to work for Henry Kloppenburg, and remained there till 1961. Joe returned to Germany the same year for six months. On his return to Canada, he began working for Pulvermacher's Turkey farm in Bruno, and it was here that he met his wife to be, Muriel Burt. Joe and Muriel were married on September 21, 1963 at Bruno. In July of 1965, they moved to Humboldt, where Joe went to work for the Humboldt Flour Mills, and where they raised their family of four. He retired from Humboldt Flour Mills in 1986 due to a back injury. A very family oriented man, Joe spent much of his time with his family. They have many good memories of time spent together especially during camping and fishing trips. In 1992, Joe made his final trip to Germany to visit his brothers and sisters. He loved to see his family grow as grandchildren started to arrive. He cherished the time spent with them and looked forward to teasing them. Joe was a personal man, who put his family first - they were the most important thing in the world to him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Muriel (nee Burt) von Doellen of Humboldt and their four children: Erika (Gordon) Berting of St. Gregor and their family, Justin (Sarah) and their daughter Blair and Angie; Joe (Barb) von Doellen of Hudson Bay and their family: Nicole, Michael, Meagan and Jennie; Monica (Mike) Kiefer of St. Gregor and their sons: Matthew and Mitchell; Eric (Terry) von Doellen of Humboldt and their family: Kane and Bryn; Joe's two brothers and three sisters: Heinrich, Werner, Mia, Hilda and Agnes all of Germany. Muriel's brothers and sisters: Jack, Alfred, Kathy, Margret and Lois; also by numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Joe was predeceased by his parents: Heinrich and Maria (nee Holzenkamp) von Doellen; his two brothers: Bernhard and Otto; Muriel's parents: Hedley and Bessie Burt; his three brothers-in-law: Arthur, Ralph and Ernest. The Funeral Mass was offered from St. Augustine R.C. Church on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Father Emile April. Others taking part in the Mass were: Mitchell Josef Kiefer, crossbearer; Nicole von Doellen and Angie Berting, readers; Matthew and Mitchell Kiefer, servers; Erika Berting, eulogist; Michael, Meagan and Jennie von Doellen, intentions; Kane and Bryn von Doellen and Blair Berting, giftbearers; Monica Kiefer, eucharistic minister. Honorary Pallbearers were considered "all those who shared in Joe's life". Urn bearers were Justin Berting and Nicole von Doellen. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to Humboldt District Hospital Spiritual Endowment Fund or the St. Mary's Villa Foundation. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK.
