The death of Mr. James "Jim" Herman Meyers of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the age of 83 years. Jim was born on July 26, 1931, to Joseph and Ludwina (nee Lang) Meyers at home on their farm in the St. Bernard's/Middle Lake district. He grew up there and attended Merrywood School. Following his education, Jim helped on the family farm. As well, he worked with his brothers doing various jobs. Eventually, Jim and his brother Lawrence took over the operation of the Meyers farm. On October 24, 1956, Jim married Catherine "Katie" Sterner at St. James. They began their life together on the Meyers' homestead where they farmed and raised a family of three, two sons and one daughter. In 1982, Jim and Katie retired into Humboldt. Jim's favorite pastimes were visiting with family and friends, the annual camping trip, fishing, hunting, painting, going on casino bus trips with Katie, and driving around in the countryside. Katie passed away on March 12, 2003. During the last two years, Jim has resided at St. Mary's Villa. Jim is survived by his three children and five grandchildren: William Meyers (Carolyn Hnatiuk) of Saskatoon, Mathew, Martina and families; Dale (Roxanne) Meyers of Humboldt, Teanna (Tom), Braeden (Shawna) and families; and Lisa Meyers (Tim Kornberger) of Star City, Kimberly and family; one brother and four sisters: Henry (Hedi) Meyers, Loretta (Wilfred) Dunne, Sophie (Alvin) Irlbeck, Catherine Dobmeier, and Pauline (George) Doell; sister-in-law, Marie Meyers; in-laws: Margaret Albers, Agnes Schemenauer, Helen (Donald) Hueser, Annamarie Teiber, Alois (Lydia) Sterner, Adolph Sterner, Alfred Sterner, George Sterner, David (Sue) Sterner, and Ben Roenspies; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine (nee Sterner) Meyers; parents, Joseph and Ludwina (nee Lang) Meyers; three brothers and one sister: Jacob (Twyla) Meyers, Lawrence Meyers, George (Virginia) Meyers, and Rose (Herman) Dobmeier; and by in-laws: Martin Dobmeier, John and Kathrina "Katie" (nee Aschenbrenner) Sterner, Mary Ann Roenspies, Joseph (Anne) Sterner, John Sterner Jr., Michael Sterner, Gilbert Albers, Theodore Schemenauer, Ed Teiber, and Madalyn Sterner. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, October 3, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB. Others taking part were: Shawna Meyers and Braeden Meyers, scripture readers; Marie Rath, intentions. Music ministry was provided by director, Loretta Schugmann, organist Dolores Hinz, and the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Jim's life". Active pallbearers were William Meyers, Dale Meyers, Lisa Meyers, Carolyn Hnatiuk, Roxanne Meyers and Braeden Meyers. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Mary's Villa Foundation. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
