Herman Anthony LinsAugust 4, 1917 - August 26, 2012Herman Anthony Lins of Humboldt, SK, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012, at his residence. He was 95 years of age. Herman was the youngest of the three children born to Herman and Regina (nee Fraess) Lins. He arrived on August 4, 1917 at the family farm north of Humboldt and was educated at Burton Lake School. Following his education, he worked on the family's mixed farm and in the late 40's, Herman and his brother John took over the farming operation following the death of Herman Sr. On July 18, 1956, Herman married Rosemarie Flory at St. Augustine's Church and they made their home on the farm where he grew up. In 1957, they built a new home in the yard and it was there that they were blessed with three sons and raised their family. Herman and Rosemarie remained on the farm until 1994 at which time they moved into Humboldt. Herman continued to actively farm with his sons until he was 85 years of age. Following that he continued with his passion for growing, by meticulously maintaining a large garden into his 90's. He appreciated wholesome, home grown food and always had a healthy appetite for whatever was on the menu. Right up until the day of his passing, he enjoyed daily drives out into the country admiring the crops and "checking out" what was going on at the farm. In his earlier years Herman enjoyed bowling, curling and supporting his boys in all their activities, including more than 10 years as a 4-H leader. After the boys grew up, Herman and Rosemarie made great memories with family and friends, who traveled with them to many different places throughout Canada and the U.S. He loved the land and took pride in his farm yard, buildings and machinery; keeping everything neat and tidy and in good working order. Herman was a hard worker who did not like to be idle. He kept up with current events and read every newspaper front to back. He enjoyed a good conversation about politics, history or genealogy and spent many happy times socializing with his condo friends. Herman will be lovingly remembered as a faithful husband, loving father, caring grandfather and as a kind and gentle man. Herman will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Rosemarie (Flory) Lins, his three sons: Alan (Valerie) and family April (Conrad) Boychuck and their son Colton of Calgary, Ashley (Kyle) Klashinsky of Annaheim, Amber and her daughter Cheyenne of Saskatoon and Mitch of Humboldt; Roger (Bev) and his sons Kris of Saskatoon and Kory of Humboldt; and Brian (Glenna) and their children Brittney and Blake, all of Saskatoon; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Regina (nee Fraess) Lins; his brother, John M (Martha) Lins; and his sister, Anne (Ted) Brockman. The Prayer Service for Herman was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, SK, on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at 8:00 p.m., led by Nestor Trach. Others taking part were: Ivan Dale and Glenna Lins, scripture readers; Brian and Glenna Lins, words of remembrance; and Darlene Cash, organist. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Others taking part were: Kyle Klashinsky, crossbearer; James Graf and Jerome Winkel, scripture readers; Pat Winkel, intentions; Marie Aubin and the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir, music ministry; Murray and Pat Lins, gift bearers. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Herman's life". Active pallbearers were Herman's grandchildren: April Boychuck, Ashley Klashinsky, Amber Lins, Mitch Lins, Kris Lins, Kory Lins, Brittney Lins, and Blake Lins. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Augustine Parish Center Fund, or the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation - Donald Bell Cardiac Endowment Fund.
