It is with broken hearts that the family of Helen (nee Arp) Kambeitz of Humboldt announces her death. She passed away on Monday, December 13, 2010, at Humboldt District Hospital at the age of 80, with her daughters by her side. Helen, the second eldest in a family of 12, was born on June 7, 1930, to Henry and Marie (nee Gariepy) Arp at home on their farm near St. James. She attended Norwegian Grove Country School in the area. Helen was like a "second mom" to her siblings as she helped her mother take care of them. Eventually, she joined the workforce in Prince Albert and Lac Vert, where she was employed as a waitress, cook, and domestic aide. On August 27, 1951, Helen married Anton "Tony" Kambeitz on the Arp family farm. Following their marriage, they worked for a farmer near Leslie. In 1952, their first daughter, Susan, was born in Wadena. Later, they moved to Naicam, where Tony worked at Rauch's Garage and Helen worked as a housekeeper for many local families. In 1955, their second daughter, Caroline "Carol", was born in Spalding. In 1974, the Kambeitz family moved to Humboldt. There, Helen worked in the kitchen at St. Mary's Villa for three years, and then joined the nursing staff for the next seven years. At that time, failing health necessitated her retirement. Helen loved cooking and baking; family favourites were her bread and pies. She also enjoyed going to bingo, on Reggie's casino bus tours, and socializing at morning coffee outings with her daughters and her friends, who will truly miss her pleasant and cheery company. Helen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two daughters, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: Susan Dobmeier of Humboldt; and Carol Hall of Humboldt and family, Darcy Meier (Lisa) and his children Xavier, Bret and Ethan, and Felicia Kambeitz (Andrew Coates); close family friend, Charles Hall; one sister and three brothers: Vi (Ken) Nevland of Birch Hills; Ted (Ruth) Arp of Revelstoke, BC; Victor (Petra) Arp of Star City; and Henry (Noreen) Arp of Hay River, YT; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Anton Kambeitz (March 9, 2006); mother, Marie (nee Gariepy) Arp (May 13, 1999); father, Henry Arp (May 15, 1986); two brothers: Ed Arp (September 13, 2004), and Cecil Arp (January 8, 2010); and by five sisters: Sarah Buhay (April 1, 2001), Jean Harder (April 4, 2007), Diane Arp (October 9, 1946), and twins Clara and Ruth Arp (July 1935). The Funeral Service for Helen was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Friday, December 17, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Fr. Emile April and accompanied by Kathy Detillieux. Interment will take place at the Naicam Town Cemetery in the spring of 2011. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK.
