Helen Grunsky

Helen Mamie Grunsky (Hauser) passed away on Dec. 31, 2010 in St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital, Edmonton. Helen was born April 8, 1921 in Humboldt to Joseph and Eva (Wyant) Hauser the second oldest of nine children.

Helen Mamie Grunsky (Hauser) passed away on Dec. 31, 2010 in St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital, Edmonton. Helen was born April 8, 1921 in Humboldt to Joseph and Eva (Wyant) Hauser the second oldest of nine children. Helen married John Grunsky on May 7, 1940 and they had six children. They were both very involved in many organizations in Humboldt. Helen was involved in everything her children joined. She was involved in the Humboldt Figure Skating Association and the Girl Guide and Brownie Association when the girls were involved. She served on the executive of St. Dominic Home and School Association. Helen was also a member of the C.W.L. and served on the executive of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Legion. She was the General Leader for the Humboldt Multiple 4-H Club, a position she held until leaving Humboldt in 1973. Helen loved to do crafts and sewing and made many costumes and candles (which she also taught classes in), then she got interested in Liquid Embroidery and did many beautiful pieces as well as becoming a company representative selling the products and teaching people how to use them. Helen became one of the first female School Bus Drivers in the area. Helen was notorious for her large garden and raising chickens to butcher and sell as well as selling eggs and cream. She was a very hard worker and worked side by side with her also hard working husband. They were both wonderful dancers and they attended Square Dancing and Round Dancing every chance they got. In 1973 they decided to retire to Kelowna, where Helen resided until the fall of 2001 when she moved to Edmonton to be near three of her children. She resided in her own apartment until she suffered a major stroke which put her in a wheelchair and she had to move to St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital in 2006. Her spirit and will deteriorated and she suffered several more strokes. Helen is survived by her son - Allan (Shirley) and their children Scott and Carey; daughter - Carol Berscheid and her children ,Tammy (Miles) and their children Steven and his son Karter, John, Adam; Jim (Sandra) and their children, Jillian and William; daughter - Linda (Larry) Faryna, Wesley (Jenny) and Curtis; and son Harry. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret (Laurie) Haynes, Isabel (Andy) Wingerak, Marie Johansen and her brother, Edward Hauser; cousins, Edward (Gertie) Hauser, Mary (John) Langenhoff, Ann Baran, Audrey(Tony) Hauser, John Hauser, Jean Massey, Jim Wyant and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Joe and Eva Hauser, her uncle Frank and Julia Hauser, her sons Gerald and Murray, her husband John, her brothers Willie and Joe, her sister Emma, Frankie Hauser and Tony Hauser.
