The death of Mrs. Helen Catherine Duerr of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), occurred on Saturday, July 30, 2011. She was 89 years of age. Helen was born on October 13, 1921, to Frank and Theresa (nee Grieman) Rabner at home on the family farm southeast of Fulda. She attended Canvasback School. After completing her education, Helen worked for the neighbours. On October 26, 1943, at the age of 23, she married Lambert Duerr in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Fulda. The happy young couple resided on the Duerr farm near Fulda. They operated a mixed farm and raised their two sons. Helen took an active role on the farm. She always grew a large garden, kept a beautiful yard, milked cows and raised chickens. In 1980, Helen and Lambert moved to Humboldt where they resided on 14th street. In 2000, Lambert passed away and Helen continued to live in their home. Eventually needing more care, on March 7, 2007, Bethany Pioneer Village became her home. Helen enjoyed growing flowers, knitting, crocheting, and cooking at which she excelled. She was active in her community, being involved with the Christian Mothers and CWL in Fulda and Humboldt. Helen was a hard working woman who had a strong faith and was devoted to her family. Helen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two sons: Larry (Bernie) Duerr of Fulda, and their daughters, Laurie Duerr of Humboldt and Amanda Duerr of Swift Current; and Gordon Duerr of Fulda; two sisters, Marie (Joe) Duerr of Humboldt and Betty Kirsch of Middle Lake; two brothers, Wilfred (Helen) Rabner and Gilbert (Rose) Rabner; and brother-in-law, Ed Ehalt, all of Humboldt. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Lambert Duerr (2000); her parents, Frank and Theresa (nee Grieman) Rabner; one sister, Dolores Ehalt; and one brother-in-law, Lawrence Kirsch. The Prayer Service for Helen was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., presided by Walter Sarauer and accompanied by organist Kathy Detillieux. Scripture readers were Lois Duerr and Brenda Duerr. The Funeral Mass was offered on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., from St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, concelebrated by Fr. Emile April and Fr. Bernard Stauber. Others taking part were: Rhonda Mortensen, cross bearer and intentions; Lois Duerr and Brenda Duerr, scripture readers; Laurie Duerr and Amanda Duerr, gift bearers; and Norman Duerr, soloist. An honor guard was formed by members of the CWL. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Helen's life." Active pallbearers were Roger Duerr, Kim Duerr, Carol Rabner, Sandra Kosokowsky, Brent Kirsch and Perry Kirsch. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to either Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, or the St. Augustine Parish Building Fund. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK.
