KUNZ: Harvey

September 24, 1949 – May 14, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey Kunz on Saturday, May 14, 2016, in Calgary, AB. Harvey was born to Norbert and Celestine (nee Ehalt) Kunz in Humboldt, SK, on Saturday, September 24, 1949, and raised in Annaheim, SK. He attended school in Annaheim, and completed his high school education at St Peter's College in Muenster SK. Followinggraduation, he had various roles in municipal and hospital administration before embarking in the insurance industry, which would become his lifelong career, right up until his last months. His knowledge and service in the industry was highly regarded, evidenced by the numerous loyal life-long clients who he faithfully served throughout the prairies. He was grateful to be involved on several levels of insurance including provincially. Harvey marriedLinda (Lux) in 1970, and they were blessed with two children, Derek and Dawnette, and subsequently five grandchildren. Harvey commented multiple times that he was only as successful as he was because of his wife. He was a big dreamer and Linda made those dreams happen by handling the details. Family meant everything to Harvey and he made every attempt to attend family functions, whether they be gatherings of the extended family, Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving family gatherings or a grandchild's dance recital. He loved life and always had a positive attitude. Fishing, farming, travels with Linda and the children..... whatever he did, he did it with passion. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. In the two weeks before his passing Harvey taught his grandson how to drive an ATV and got out on the boat with his grandchildren reminiscing. In the days prior to entering hospice, Harvey was surrounded by extended family telling stories and sharing memories. Harvey also graciously gave his time in public service, actively volunteering with the Humboldt Jaycees and serving as chairman of St. Elizabeth's Hospital Foundation and as an alderman in Humboldt. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Harvey is survived by his loving wife Linda; mother Celestine Kunz; son Derek (Roxanne) and their children Hailey and Jarod; daughter Dawnette (Sonny) Brett and their children Abigail, Isabella and Eyva; his siblings: Gary (Brenda), Linda (Brent) Kolbeck, and Connie (Brad) Bley; Linda's siblings: Eileen (Leonard) Hiebert, Dianna (Ken) Poss, Gordon (Margaret) Lux, Jean Lux, Fern Huslage, Norman (Linda) Lux, and Glen (Maureen) Lux; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Norbert Kunz; brother Rick Kunz; Linda's parents, Peter and Hilda Lux; brothers-in-law: Leon Lux, Richard Huslage, Donald (Sheila) Lux; and by nephew Kevin Lux. A Celebration of Harv's Life was held at St Ann's R.C. Church in Annaheim, SK, on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., officiated by Pastor Brad Moffat of Calgary, AB. Music ministry was provided by pianist, Allison Sarauer, soloist, Dawnette Brett, and vocalists, members of the Kunz family. The eulogy was delivered by Connie Bley, Norman Lux and Dave Doepker, and the urn bearer was Jarod Kunz. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Harvey’s life”. Interment followed at St. Ann’s R.C. Cemetery. Friends so wishing may make donations to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the St. Ann’s R.C. Church and Cemetery Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
