"With heavy hearts, we are sad to announce Dad passed away peacefully at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, SK, on Tuesday, March 12, 2012. He was 89 years of age. Predeceased by his wife Margaret (nee Schlachter) in August 2001; his parents, Jack and Elsie (nee Pearce) Whitehead; and several sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Harold leaves to mourn his three children: Gary (Linda), Harvey (Cheryl) and Marjorie Neufeld (Wayne Vanin); seven grandchildren: Kelly (Liyan), Todd, Gerald (Jaime), Carmen, Lana (Ken) Bond, Marcus, and Camron; three great-grandchildren: Bailey, Jenna and Lindsay; brother, John (Gladys); sisters: Mabel Hayward and Evelyn Flint; sister-in-law, Mary Berton; and several nieces and nephews. Dad was born on the family farm in the Lucasville district. He enlisted in the Armed Forces in 1943, and married the love of his life, Margaret, later that same year. After several months at different training bases in British Columbia, Dad contracted severe pneumonia and pleurisy, spending four months in an army hospital. After his medical discharge, Mum and Dad came home and spent the next 58 years farming in the Plunkett/Glynfield area. Dad remained on the farm until the fall of 2010, when he retired to Humboldt. His pastimes included playing cards, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching sports. Dad was a kind-hearted man. Dad, you were loved and we will miss you." The Funeral Service was held at Westminster United Church, Humboldt, SK, on Friday, March 16, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Al Hingley. The eulogy was delivered by Wayne Vanin. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation or the Lung Association. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
