MENZEL: Hanna Elizabeth
March 17, 1931 - April 1, 2014
It is with saddened hearts we announce the death of Mrs. Hanna Elizabeth (nee Kyrath) Menzel of Humboldt, SK, on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt. She was 83 years of age. Hanna was born on March 17, 1931, to Heinrich and Frieda (nee Angerstein) Kyrath at Wolfenbüttel, Germany, and also attended school there. After her schooling, she trained and worked as a seamstress in a local factory. In June of 1949, Hanna married Helmut Menzel. Their first born son, Ted, was born in West Germany and when Ted was four months old, Hanna and Ted boarded a ship and joined Helmut in Canada. Three more sons were born to Hanna and Helmut in Canada: William, Helmut Jr., and Ronald. Hanna worked as a housekeeper at the Pioneer in the early 1970's. They enjoyed going to Waskesiu, and loved the outdoors, being among the trees, walking trails; and they also travelled to Mexico for quite a few years, and really enjoyed those trips. Hanna loved sewing, gardening, and her specialty--German food dishes. She was also a member of the German Heritage Society. She was a real joker and the life of the party, even in her last days in the hospital. Hanna will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her three sons, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: TED(Connie) Menzel and family, Shauna(Ed) Pacik and sons Dyllan and Brayden, all of Saskatoon, Ryan(Megan) Menzel and son Eli of Regina, SK, and Layne Menzel of Saskatoon; HELMUT Menzel Jr. of Humboldt and family, Cory(Lisa) Menzel of Camrose, AB, and sons Andrew and Stephen, and Krista(Gordon) Stewart of Edmonton, AB; and RONALD Menzel of Estevan, SK, and family, Barry and Aaron; and William's family: Devin Menzel of Big River, SK, and Shannon Menzel of Edmonton, AB; two sisters, Inge(Hans) Langner and Doris Steinmann, both of Germany. She was predeceased by her husband, Helmut Menzel; two sons, Manfred Menzel (in infancy) and William Menzel (July 25, 1985); parents Heinrich and Frieda(nee Angerstein) Kyrath; siblings, Walter(Gertrud) Kyrath, Friedel(Willi) Thiele, Hildergard(Manfred) Kaminski, and brother-in-law, Alfred Steinmann.
