Gwen (nee Hohmann) ZimmermanApril 22, 1947 - August 10, 2012

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Gwen (nee Hohmann) Zimmerman of Englefeld, SK, on Friday, August 10, 2012. She was 65 years of age. Gwen, the third oldest of nine children, was born on April 22, 1947, to Theodore and Josephine (nee Delainey) Hohmann in Humboldt. She grew up and attended school in St. Gregor and obtained her Grade 8 education. After her schooling, Gwen moved into Humboldt and worked as a housekeeper for Carl Bornhorst. On April 24, 1965, she married William "Willie" Zimmerman. The couple made their home in St. Gregor for the following five years. Shortly after their marriage they were blessed with four children: Michele in 1966, followed by Darren in 1967, Lyn in 1969 and Leah in 1979. Gwen and Willie moved to Englefeld in 1970, where they spent their lives together up until her death. Over the years, Gwen held various jobs including camp road crew cook, waitress, school bus driver for 17 years, helped her daughter at the bakery, post master, and most recently selling Avon. She had numerous hobbies and interests which included: knitting, crocheting, bingo, casino games, playing cards, curling, water skiing, attending the grandchildren's activities, spending time at the lake, attending coffee row and especially spending time with family and friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 47 years, William "Willie" Zimmerman; four children and seven grandchildren: Michele King (Kirk Angus) and her daughters, Sarah King (Peter) and Larissa King; Darren (Sherry) Zimmerman and daughter, Amanda Zimmerman; Lyn (Donna) Zimmerman and family, Kelly and Ryley Zimmerman; and Leah (Jesse) Korte and their family, Jeter and Alida Korte; three brothers: Ted (Rose) Hohmann, Ed (Linda) Hohmann, Bob (Barb) Hohmann; two sisters: Thelma (Frank) Cvek and Irene Crook; sister-in-law, Doreen Hohmann; brother-in-law, Brian Reifferscheid; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Josephine (nee Delainey) Hohmann; two brothers: Ken Hohmann and Pat Hohmann; sister, Colleen Reifferscheid; son-in-law, Bruce King; sister-in-law, Angela Weinkauf; brother-in-law, Charlie Crook; father-in-law, John Zimmerman; and mother-in-law, Mary Zimmerman. The Prayer Service for Gwen was held at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Englefeld, on Monday, August 13, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., presided by Patsy Knafelc and Marie ven der Buhs. Scripture readers were Sarah and Larissa King. Michele King delivered the eulogy. The Funeral Mass was offered at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., concelebrated by Fr. Darryl Millette and Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB. Others taking part were: Ryley Zimmerman, crossbearer; Shailynn and Taevan Athmer, Mass servers; Kelly and Amanda Zimmerman, scripture readers; Jason and Jay Zimmerman, intentions; Darren and Sherry Zimmerman, giftbearers; Sharon Woulfe and Deb Andrews, memorial table attendants; and Leah Korte, urn bearer. Music ministry was provided by organist Sandra Athmer and the Holy Guardian Angels Church Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "anyone who shared in Gwen's life". Interment followed at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be directed to either the St. Paul's Palliative Care Unit or the Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
