Gilbert John RoettgerOctober 12, 1937 - January, 18, 2012
The death of Mr. Gilbert John Roettger of Pilger, SK, occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. He was 74 years of age. Gilbert, the third boy and sixth child of Bernard and Mary (nee Streitenberger), was born on January 12, 1937, in Bruno. He grew up on the family farm near Pilger and attended Stearns Country School passing his Grade 8. Gilbert then worked for his father on the family farm. He worked as a hired man for the Kirsch farm and worked in construction with Hoffman Lumber in Middle Lake. Finally, Gilbert worked on the Kevin Abel farm. He then retired and continued to make his home in Pilger. In his retirement, Gilbert had time to enjoy playing Bingo, bowling, card games at his place and checking out garage sales. Gilbert was also a member of the Pilger Seniors' Club which he enjoyed very much. He enjoyed the company of the many birds he fed and spent many hours watching them eat. If you ever had the opportunity to visit him he would usually have candles burning in his house and at Christmas time he took great pride in his Christmas lights and display. Gilbert was a quiet man who loved the simple things in life. "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5. He will be remembered with love by his four sisters and one brother: Irene (Fred) Urick of Humboldt and family: Ron, Wayne, Elaine, Murray, Sharon, Gary, Charlene, Diane, Marianne, Randy and Maureen; Ramona (Elmer) Weyland of Humboldt and family: Cathy, Allan, Robert and Parker; Raymond (Kathy) Roettger of Regina and family: Donna, Sherry, Curtis; Marlene (Ervin) Jaeb of Humboldt and family: Jacalyn and Carla; and Darlene (Donald) Abday of Middle Lake and family: Karen and Dianne; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
