GASPER

Mrs. Gertrude Regina Gasper, 83 years of St. Mary's Villa Humboldt, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 at St. Paul's Hospital Saskatoon surrounded by her family. Gertrude Regina was born on April 18, 1929 in Cudworth to Francisco Edward and Adella Christine (Wise) Diederichs. Gertie obtained her education in the St. Benedict area. Following she worked in Cudworth at the local store and at the Cudworth Hospital in the kitchen. She met Gerald Gasper through his sister Marjorie and they were married on August 22, 1956 at Cudworth. They began their farming career on Gerald's parent's farm in the Bruno District. Gertie would help Gerald in the hectic times of farming but her primary duties remained in the home. As a mother of four children she was kept very busy. She grew beautiful and bountiful gardens which provided tasty preserves throughout the year, but she was best known for her baking ability, and her "Famous Buns". In her 40's, Gertie and Gerald spent wonderful times with their neighbours sledding around the area. After Gerald's passing, Gertie moved into Prairie View and enjoyed the activities provided. Gertie was a known shopper and she loved to find unique items. So while in Prairie View she was very happy to have a Sears catalogue and could continue shopping without leaving her home. Another pastime of Gertie's was playing cards and board games with family and friends. Gertie had a strong faith and led by example for her children. Gertie loved her family trips to the west coast. She loved her children and was thrilled when her grandchildren started to arrive. The words that best describe Gertie is an all around 100% mom who was a gentle, caring and loving person. Gertie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children and nine grandchildren: Sharon (Clayton) Toner of Estevan and family Jeannette of Calgary, Reece and Nadine of Saskatoon; Bob (Betty) Gasper and son Anton all of Calgary; Donna Gasper and sons Brett, Derek and Ben all of Kitimat, BC and David (Tabbetha) Gasper and family Victoria and Cohen all of Bruno; and by three brother-in-laws and their families. Gertie was predeceased by her husband Gerald; parents Frank and Adella Diederichs; one infant sister Mary and members of the Gasper family. A Prayer Service was held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Celebrated by, Fr. Joe Ackerman OSB. Both services will be held from St. Bruno's R.C. Church Bruno. Interment followed at St. Bruno's R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations in Gertie's memory may be directed to Canadian Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to MALINOSKI & DANYLUIK FUNERAL HOME Humboldt, SK.
