LINS:Gerald

Gerald Leon Lins was born on May 6, 1936. He was the oldest son to John and Freda Lins. He grew up with his brother Don and sister Joyce on the family farm near Humboldt. On August 14, 1954 Gerald was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was often seen around Humboldt doing his preaching work and speaking informally about his faith with many friends. On June 22, 1968 in Plunkett he married Muriel McMeans and together they raised 2 children, Tammy and Sheldon and worked together on the farm. He was a faithful and caring husband until Muriel's death in 2010. Gerald was a devoted son and older brother, always making sure that family needs were looked after. Gerald's passion was farming. His golden wheat fields and charolais cattle were his pride and joy. He would spend countless hours in his shop designing and making many things that are still used on the farm today. There wasn't anything that he couldn't fix. Gerald was able to help with farming until the spring of 2013. Gerald loved to travel. Before he was married, he went to Europe with Joyce and her husband Dieter. They visited 9 countries including the communist East Germany. With his wife Muriel and their kids, they travelled to the mountains to ski and enjoyed countless camping and fishing trips. In 2006 Gerald, Muriel, Tammy and her husband Keith enjoyed a Caribbean cruise. Gerald loved to talk and tell stories and nobody will ever forget his laugh and the mischievous twinkle in his eye. He got such a kick out of his grandchildren and would often tell others of the funny things that they would say. They loved going to grandpa's place for scooter rides, chips and popsicles. Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his two children and five grandchildren: Tammy(Keith) Hesson and their children Mikayla and Bradley of Ottawa, ON and Sheldon(Nathale) Lins and their children Taylor, Haley and Brett of Humboldt; his sister Joyce(Dieter) Hoffmann of Calgary, AB; sister-in-law Ruby Lins of Ottawa; nephew David(Donna) Lins and family of Ottawa; niece Leesa(Jordan) Byman and family of Calgary; and his in-laws McMeans family and Beecham family. Gerald was predeceased by his parents, John and Freda; wife, Muriel and brother, Don. Gerald died peacefully on Monday March 31st 2014, at age 77, with Sheldon and Nathale by his side. He rests in Jehovah's memory until the resurrection (John 5:28, 29) to a paradise earth (Psalms 37: 11) where he will once again enjoy a good laugh with friends and family and be free of all sickness and pain. The Funeral Service for Gerald was held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt. Interment followed at Morvin Cemetery in the Wolverine District.
