DUEKER: George Henry

January 24, 1926 - March 27, 2014

The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. George Dueker of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, on Thursday, March 27, 2014. He was 88 years of age. George was born to Ben and Ursula (Deiderich) Dueker in Cudworth Hospital on January 24, 1926. Born and raised a farmer, he quit school to help on the farm after his father died at age 49. As he got older, he went to dances in St. Benedict and met Gertrude Klassen whom he married and they had two children-Melanie and Daryl. They eventually bought their own farm and then they retired to Humboldt. As George grew older, he lost most of his eyesight to macular degeneration, but always remained brave no matter what happened. His hobbies were hunting, farming, gardening, card playing and visiting with friends and family. He also enjoyed his scooter rides down to Trans Café every day. George was a generous, kind, happy man who always lent an ear and liked to joke around. He will be truly missed. George is survived by his two children: Melanie(Brian) Hauser of Humboldt, and her children, Tina(Devon) Mitchell and their daughter Alyssa of Calgary, AB; Keith Hauser and his daughter Adrianna of Saskatoon; Daryl(Beverly) Dueker and their son Clayton(Karla) Dueker of Regina; sister, Leona Balon of Saskatoon; brothers, Jerome(Anne Marie) Dueker of Saskatoon, and Arnold Dueker of Hamilton, ON; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude (nee Klassen) Dueker; parents, Ben and Ursula (nee Deiderich) Dueker; sisters, Evelyn Hunt and Verna Dueker; and brother, Delmer Dueker. The Funeral Mass for George was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Others taking part were: Tina Mitchell, crossbearer; Verna Altrosse, intentions; Ted Schugmann and Ursula Klassen, scripture readers; Charlene Lessmeister and Lyn Dutton, giftbearers; Dolores Hinz, music ministry; and Margarite Senko, memorial table attendant. The eulogy was delivered by Ted Schugmann. An Honor Guard was formed by the Knights of Columbus. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Beasley, Willy Bauman, Laverne Martinka, Keith Hauser, and "all those who shared in George's life". Urnbearer was Leona Balon. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
