Fred GriemanMay 16, 1925 - January 30, 2012

The death of Mr. Fred Grieman of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at his residence on Monday, January 30, 2012. He was 86 years of age. Fred, the eldest of three children, was born on May 16, 1925, to John Sr. and Elizabeth (nee Dorner) Grieman at home on their farm in the Fulda district. He grew up there and attended Canvasback School. Following his education, Fred began his life-long career of farming, an occupation he absolutely loved. He strongly believed in the Wheat Board, of which he was a dedicated member. Fred always took great pride in his farm yard which was impeccably manicured, his land, and his International machinery and Ford truck. After 20 years, the seats from his most current machinery purchases were still covered with plastic. After he retired from farming three years ago and his nephew and great-nephews took over the farming operation, Fred maintained an active interest and made regular trips to the farm from his home in Humboldt. Even after moving into the Villa, the farm was foremost on his mind and in his conversation. Over the years, Fred pursued a wide variety of hobbies and interests. He loved traveling and made trips to numerous locations, including various places in Germany, Austria, British Columbia, and several spots in the United States, particularly Las Vegas, Nevada, Arizona and Florida. As a sports enthusiast, he enjoyed golfing and curling. He was a member of the Humboldt Curling Club for over 50 years, participated in many bonspiels, and still curled as recent as three years ago. Other favorite pastimes were visiting the casinos and socializing over a bottomless cup of coffee on coffee row - or coffee rows; he enjoyed making the rounds to a few local cafes. A very important part of Fred's life was his family, especially his nieces, nephews and their families. He spent a lot of time with them and attended various events and celebrations, such as First Communion, Baptism, Easter, Christmas, and other get-togethers. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law, Joseph Hueser of Humboldt; nieces, nephews, and their families: Gwen (Gary) Schlacter of Humboldt and family, Tracy (Curt) Bells and children Cole and Jade; Colin (Britany) Schlacter, and Regan Schlacter; Kevin (Susan) Grieman of Humboldt and family, Kaitlyn and Haley, and Regan Schlacter; Debbi Barnes of Humboldt and family, Corri (fiancée Erin Geenen), Jennifer (Scott) Barnes-Frank and children Morgan, Ayden and Kasandra, Pam (Aaron) Saretsky and children Logan, Ashton and Adahlia, Krissi (fiancé James Stuckel) and children Avry and Marley, Cyndi (fiancé Craig Martin) and children Abigail and Olivia, and Michael (Briana); and Rick (Mary) Grieman of Regina and children Jon and Keri; and by special friend, Betty Woolsey of Melfort. He was predeceased by his parents, John Sr. and Elizabeth (nee Dorner) Grieman; brother, John Grieman Jr.; sister, Gertrude Hueser; sister-in-law, Valerie Grieman-Boutin; and by nephew, Bryan Barnes. The Prayer Service for Fred was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., led by Nestor Trach and organist Darlene Cash. Scripture readers were Kaitlyn Grieman and Jennifer Barnes-Frank, and the eulogy was delivered by Pam Saretsky. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Friday, February 3, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB. Others taking part were: Susan Grieman, crossbearer; Krissi Barnes, intentions; Tracy Bells and Jennifer Barnes-Frank, scripture readers; Cyndi Barnes and Aaron Saretsky, giftbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Fred's great-nieces-and-nephews and all others who shared in his life. Active pallbearers were Colin Schlacter, Regan Schlacter, Kurt Bells, Corri Barnes, Michael Barnes and Scott Frank. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK
