RAUW: Francis "Frank" Peter

September 10, 1921 - August 23, 2013

Frank Rauw, a man who loved to make people smile, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2013, at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK. He was 91 years of age. Frank, the second youngest in a family of eight, was born to Mathias and Anna (nee Lueke) Rauw on September 10, 1921, at home on the family farm in the Willmont District. In 1950 he married his life-long love, Lucy Scheper, and together they happily raised their five kids on the family farm near Fulda. In 1974, they moved into Humboldt where Frank worked for the Sask. Wheat Pool Farm Service Centre until he retired in 1986. During the next years, Frank continued to be an active man, curling and golfing well into his 80's. Much time was also spent around the kitchen table playing cards, dominoes, Yahtzee, dice or whatever game which Frank thought he might be able to beat Lucy. He enjoyed laughter and nothing made him happier than to have his wife, kids, grandkids and, later, great-grandkids around. Frank loved a good practical joke and never missed an opportunity to tell a new joke to those he met. In 2011, he and Lucy moved into Caleb Village in Humboldt, a wonderful community to spend his last years. Dad will be forever missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Lucy (nee Scheper) Rauw of Humboldt, SK; one son and three daughters: Marvin (Erna) Rauw of Fulda, SK; Marilyn (Dwight) Rauw of Saskatoon, SK; Carla (Bob) Choquette of Calgary, AB; and Dorothy (Robin) Karlson of Cochrane, AB; eight grandchildren: Faye (Curtis) Rauw, Dustan (Carol) Rauw, Chelsea (Joe) Tupy, Clayton Rauw, Will Schenn, Matt (Jenna) Schenn, Brady Karlson, Sarah Karlson; five great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Russo, Alex Rauw, Ava Rauw, Cohen Schenn, and Oliver Schenn; and by two sisters: Mona Whelan of Saskatoon; and Frieda Ryan of London, ON. He was predeceased by his son Ken Rauw; parents, Mathias and Anna (nee Lueke) Rauw; and by four sisters and one brother: Clara Dust, Agnes Rauw, Barbara Rauw, Mary Rauw (in infancy), and Martin Rauw. The Prayer Service for Frank was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., led by Nestor Trach and organist Denise Germain. Scripture readers were Faye Rauw and Carla Choquette, and the eulogy was delivered by Dorothy Karlson. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth. Others taking part were: Sarah Karlson and Carla Choquette, scripture readers; Carol Rauw, intentions; Erna Rauw, Robin Karlson and Alex Rauw, giftbearers; Shelley Wylie, memorial table attendant; Carol Hushagen and Yvonne Turner, special musical selection; Joe Niebrugge, guitarist; and the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. The eulogy was delivered and a video presentation of Frank's life was shown during the memorial luncheon. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Frank's life". Active pallbearers were Faye Rauw, Dustin Rauw, Chelsea Tupy, Clayton Rauw, Will Schenn, Matt Schenn, Brady Karlson, and Sarah Karlson. Interment take place at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital General Equipment Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
