Florianna Elizabeth LukanApril 20, 1934 - March 25, 2012It is with profound sadness that the family of Mrs. Florianna (nee Wourms) Lukan of the Middle Lake district, announces her death on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Humboldt District Hospital. She was 77 years of age. Florianna was born to Hubert and Walburga (nee Pitzel) Wourms at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Humboldt, SK. She grew up on the Wourms family farm northwest of Fulda and attended St. Matthew's School. Following her education, Florianna worked as a hired girl for Edith Flory and Dorothy Graf. On February 9, 1954, she married James Lukan at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in the old Fulda district, where she then joined James on the Lukan family farm which included grain, livestock and dairy. It was here that they were blessed with three daughters and nine sons and raised their family. To provide for her family, she always planted a large garden, and kept busy with mending and sewing clothes which she was very good at. In 1998, Florianna and James retired from farming but continued to live on the family farm. Florianna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends doing activities such as camping, crocheting, and bowling. The Funeral Mass was offered on Thursday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK, celebrated by Fr. Emile April. Others taking part were: Dave Lukan, crossbearer; Calvin Lukan and Norma Emde, Linda Lukan and Sharon Baran, scripture readers; Ange Lukan and Helen Lukan, intentions; and Wilbert and Angeline Wourms, giftbearers. Music ministry was provided by Liane McDonald. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Florianna's life". The urnbearer was James Lukan. Interment will take place at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Mary's Villa Foundation, Bethany Pioneer Village, Canadian Cancer Society or the St. Bernard's Cemetery Fund.
