BARRAND: Florence

The peaceful death of Mrs. Florence Barrand, 86 years, of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake and formerly of Petersen, SK occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2015. Florence was born on October 23, 1928 to Gaetan and Josephine (nee Jul茅) Rault at Cudworth. She obtained a grade 8 education at the Red Willow School. Florence loved helping her mother with household duties meanwhile obtaining a great education in all areas of homemaking. The Barrand and Rault families were neighbours and very good friends so shortly Ted was seen coming to visit Florence often and on April 16, 1952 the two were wed at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Peterson. They began their life together on the Barrand homestead 4 miles south of Peterson. Soon they were blessed with four children. They ran a mixed farm, but Florence鈥檚 duties remained in the domestic area providing a wonderful loving home for her family. She was an extremely good cook and could whip up delicious dishes such as her famous 鈥渏am jam鈥檚鈥, buns, dressing and her wonderful tasting Sunday night chicken suppers. Florence was a very talented seamstress and is very well known for her famous 鈥淔lorence Quilts鈥 which she shared with her family and many friends in the area. She has crafted 1000 quilts in her time. They included large quilts with many unique designs and soft and cuddly baby quilts. Florence and Ted travelled to many farmers markets for 15 years. They loved the social aspect of the markets and to be able to share their produce, baking and crafts with many people. Florence and Ted would spend summers camping in Northern Saskatchewan with their children and then later with their grandchildren. They all have wonderful memories and stories of their family times together camping. They took many bus trips which included Edmonton and Vancouver to visit family. They also enjoyed many casino bus trips. The coffee was always on at Florence鈥檚 home and you were made to feel very welcomed and loved with a little snack to go along with the coffee and visit. She was a very giving lady who was always ready and willing to help anyone family or friends when needed. In 2002 Ted passed away and Florence remained on the farm until 2010 when she moved into Prairie View. This adjustment to town life was not a easy change, Florence鈥檚 heart was on the farm. On December 14, 2013 due to failing health Florence moved to Bethany Pioneer Village where she adjusted very well and loved her time there visiting with family and making new friends. Family was always number one for Florence especially everyone getting together for special occasions. She was very committed to her faith and prayed the rosary on a daily basis. Florence was a very kind, gentle, generous woman who will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children, seven grandchildren and听 three great grandchildren: Sharon (Larry) Whitehead and family: Carla (Darrell) Osadchuk and children Cassidy and Emily and Kevin (Amy) Whitehead all of Calgary; Marilyn (Allen) Thiel and daughter Brandy (Jason) Moritz and daughter Lexi all of Bruno; Larry (Bernice) Barrand and family Scott and Ashley all of Saskatoon and Brenda (Lionel) Pelletier and sons Brett (Brittney) and Brandon all of Saskatoon; a very special niece Caroline (Norman) Hamoline and sons Brayden and Daylen all of Saskatoon; two sisters-in-law Christina Rault of Viscount and Margaret Smith of Vancouver, BC; and by numerous nieces and nephews, Florence was听 predeceased by her parents Gaetan and Josephine Rault; husband Ted Barrand; brothers and sisters: Germaine (Tony) Warick, Genevieve (Frank) Hiller, Yvonne (Hubert) Greuel, Guy Rault; sister and brother-in-law: Violet Follis and George Barrand. The Prayer Service for Florence was held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. Celebrated by, Fr.
