Emma BraitenbachMay 8, 1921 - January 24, 2011The death of Mrs. Emma (nee Mayert) Braitenbach of Humboldt, (and formerly of LeRoy), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Monday, January 24, 2011. She was 89 years of age. Emma was born on May 8, 1921, to Charles and Amelia (nee Klein) Mayert at home on the family farm south of LeRoy. She attained her education at Spring Grove Country School. In her early twenties, Emma travelled to New Westminster, BC, to work in a hospital. About one year later, she returned to LeRoy to help her brother Albert on the family farm. On October 21, 1947, Emma married William "Bill" Braitenbach at Zion Lutheran Church in LeRoy. The couple raised a family of three children, two sons and one daughter, on their farm south of LeRoy. Due to failing health, they retired and moved into town in 1981. On December 3, 1989, Bill passed away. Emma continued to live in LeRoy where she was an active member of the community. She was involved with the Lutheran Ladies Aide, the Senior Drop-In Center and the Zion Lutheran Church. Emma enjoyed the Minus One dances and socializing with friends and family. When mowing the lawn and tending to her large garden became too difficult, Emma moved to the Village Green Condos in Humboldt in 2009. Emma's hobbies included crafts, needlework, doing word puzzles and reading. She affectionately hand-stitched treasured quilts for each of her family members. Emma had a large collection of recipes and loved to try out a new one when her family came to visit. Her homemade bread, poppy seed cakes and cookies, fresh pies, lefsa and cabbage rolls are family favourites. Emma will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by three children, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one step-great-grandchild: Mervin (Linda) Braitenbach of Edmonton, AB, and family, Angel Braitenbach-Griffith (Rick Griffith), and Alesha Braitenbach; Valerie (Pat) Bauml of Napanee, ON, and family, Trevor Bauml, Trent Bauml (fiancée Annette Lees) and children Makiya Bauml and Mayson Lees, Crystal Bauml, and Michael Bauml (fiancée Katie Flanigan); and David (Leona) Braitenbach of Humboldt and family, Dawson (Kara) Braitenbach, Brehanna Braitenbach, and Travis Braitenbach; brother, John Mayert of Regina; sister, Clara Schindel of Watson; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Braitenbach of Saskatoon; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William Braitenbach (1989); parents, Charles and Amelia (nee Klein) Mayert; and by two sisters and two brothers: Ida Lem, Elsie Merritt, Sam Mayert, and Albert Mayert. The Funeral Service for Emma was held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Humboldt, on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., led by Pastor Robert Grout. Others taking part were Elaine Seigel, organist; Alesha Braitenbach, instrumental soloist; Pat Bauml, memories; Audrey Crowter and Ann Bendig, memorial table attendants. The honorary pallbearer was Dawson Braitenbach. Active pallbearers were Trevor Bauml, Trent Bauml, Michael Bauml, Travis Braitenbach, Rick Griffith, and Calvin Muller. Interment followed at LeRoy Public Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK
