NIEBRUGGE: Elvira

The family is very saddened to announce that Mrs. Elvira Niebrugge (nee Breit), 86 years of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt and formerly of Bruno, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Elvira was born on February 25, 1928 in Bruno to Albert and Rose (nee Hazelwanter) Breit. She received her education at Bruno Elementary School and following that worked at domestic jobs for various families in the area. She then worked for a time at the printing press for the Bruno Times. Elvira married Norbert Niebrugge on September 30, 1947. They operated a mixed farm in the Pilger/Bruno area, raising cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys. Elvira tended to a large vegetable garden each year and preserved the fruits of her labour for their family to enjoy during the rest of the year. She was an incredible cook and baker. She was especially known for her Breaded Turkey and her vast array of tasty squares, which she was always generous to share. Elvira helped at Holy Family Church and Willing School with their music program and special concerts. Music was her passion and she passed this on to her children. She was active in her church, singing with the Senior Choir and serving with the CWL. Elvira sewed many items over the years from matching outfits for her girls to the many quilts and crocheted blankets which each of her grandchildren received as precious gifts. Her collection of Angels numbers into the hundreds and they were all special to her. Although Elvira was a very quiet and reserved person, she was extremely knowledgeable in anything you might want to know from fads to facts. Their family was always the most important part of their lives and as it grew to include grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were filled with joy. As their health began to fail, Norbert moved to Bethany and she spent a short time at Prairieview before joining him there. Then in March of 2006, they moved to St. Mary's Villa together. They were so happy to be together again, throughout their marriage they had always complemented each other so well, and being apart was very hard on both of them. She enjoyed her time at the Villa especially when she was able to help with the cookie baking. Sadly Norbert passed away on August 23, 2010 and the last four years she has missed him dearly. Elvira will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children and 15 grandchildren: ROSALIE (Roger) Brandl of Fort St. John, BC and family, Michelle (Brian) Hergott, Kurt (Jody) Kainer, Deanne (Jason) Lawson, Sheri (Micheal) Blanchette, Kevin Kainer (Angela London) and Audrey (Dale) Swinamer; MELVA (Ken) Weiman of Bruno and family, Jamie (John) White and Blaine (Lisa) Weiman; WESLEY (Colleen) Niebrugge of Bruno and family, Mandy (Neal) Ganton, Kristin (Brad) Pelletier and Randi (Adam) Parker; and DION (Cheryl) Niebrugge of Bruno and family Robyn Niebrugge, Shane Niebrugge, Billy Charlton and Shelby Charlton; 25 great grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Roles of Guelph, ON and Delphine (Don) Carmichael of Sudbury, ON; brother-in-law Joe Niebrugge, sister-in-law Olga Niebrugge and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Rose Breit; husband, Norbert Niebrugge; son-in-law, James Kainer; infant granddaughter, Delayne Kainer; brothers, Donald (Joyce) Breit and Peter (Betty) Breit; brother-in-law, Eugene Roles; and members of the Niebrugge family. The Prayer Service for Elvira was held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was offered on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Both services were held at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, Bruno, officiated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Interment followed in the St. Bruno Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations in Elvira's memory may be made to the St. Mary's Villa Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or St. Bruno Church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
