Elenor Classen

It is with profound sadness that the family of Elenor Frieda (nee Schleper) Classen of Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of St. Gregor, SK), announces her death on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Humboldt District Hospital. She was 73 years of age. Elenor, the fifth child in a family of 12, was born to Ed and Helen (nee Menz) Schleper on January 11, 1940, at Humboldt and was raised in St. Gregor. She worked in numerous locations for SaskTel for over 20 years until she married James "Jim" Classen on August 31, 1970, in St. Mary's R.C. Church at Regina, SK. Following their marriage, they moved back to St. Gregor, where Elenor was a loving homemaker for her husband and their daughter Jody. She was also very involved with the community and church. Elenor and Jim relocated to Humboldt in 1997. Elenor volunteered many hours at the Good Neighbor Store. In her leisure time, she loved to golf, bowl, garden and play bingo. Elenor will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Jim Classen; their daughter, Jody Classen; six sisters and one brother: Rose Poelzer, Mary McTaggart, Annette Zawada, Vera Veness, Edwina Schleper, Alan Schleper, and Wendy Bernhard; sisters-and-brothers-in-law of the Classen family: Margurite Conway, Lucille Rath, Daniel Classen, and Andrew Classen; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ed and Helen (nee Menz) Schleper; and by two sisters and two brothers: Evelyn Grieman, Dianna Fink, Gerald Schleper, and Roman Schleper. The Prayer Service for Elenor was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, February 8, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., led by Nestor Trach. Scripture readers were Rose Poelzer and Mary McTaggart. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth. Others taking part were: Cheryl Chapman, crossberer; Rose Poelzer and Mary McTaggart, scripture readers; Cindy Weekes, intentions; Vera Veness, Annette Zawada and Alan Schleper, giftbearers; and Jean Engele and Lou Zintel, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Elenor's life". Active pallbearers were Jeff McNaughty, Russell Classen, Brian Grieman, Nolan Veness, Darryl Classen and Trevor Schleper. Interment followed at St. Gregory R.C. Cemetery, St. Gregor. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Gregory R.C. Cemetery Fund, the St. Augustine Parish Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
