Egill BuschmanSeptember 15, 1917 - July 22, 2012It is with heavy hearts that the family of Egill Buschman of Humboldt, SK, announces his death on Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK. He was 94 years of age. Egill was born on September 15, 1917, to Axel and Elerine (nee Hansen) Buschman at Watrous. He was the third in a family of eight, and the first one born after the family immigrated to Canada from Norway. Initially the Buschmans homesteaded at Venn, SK, then in 1923, purchased land in the Muenster district and settled there. Egill attained his elementary education at Ives Country School, then took grades nine and ten by correspondence. He continued helping at home on the farm until July 12, 1942, when he enlisted with the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces. As well as duties in Canada, he served his country in Great Britain and Western Europe until he was discharged in February 1946. On November 12th of that year, Egill married Gertrude Schreiner in Assumption R.C. Church at Marysburg, SK. Three children, two daughters and one son were born to them. Egill and Gertrude farmed in the Marysburg district for 40 years, then moved into Kinsmen Court in Humboldt. Over the years, Egill took an active interest in the communities in which he lived: he served 38 years on the Moseley Wheat Pool Committee; nine years on the Marysburg Parish Council; ten years on the Marysburg School Board; 23 years on the Humboldt Credit Union Board of Directors with nine of those years as president; and 12 years as a director of the Humboldt Co-op Association. He was also a member of the Lake Lenore Knights of Columbus and the Humboldt Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. In earlier years, Egill enjoyed curling and golfing. Socializing, especially for meals at Trans Café, was a highlight of his everyday activities. More than anything, Egill's life centred around his family and his faith. He loved nothing more than visits with his children and grandchildren, and was devoted to attending Mass and other functions involving the church. Egill will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by two daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Joan Duke of Humboldt and family, Aaron (Jen) Duke and son Carter, (and their second child who is due in August), Glen Duke, and Adam Duke; Agnes Buschman of Humboldt and family, Lori (Pat) LaClare and daughters Jasmine, Jersey and Abby, Jacquie Thompson, and Darrell (Michelle) Thompson and daughter Erica; and Jack (Gail) Buschman of Saskatoon and daughters Jamie and Leah; one sister, Agnes Steffen of Muenster, SK; one brother, Wilfred (Marina) Buschman of Parksville, BC; sisters-in-law: Marie Buschman of Calgary, AB; and Hedy Buschman of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude (nee Schreiner) Buschman (2002); father, Axel Buschman (1961); mother, Elerine (nee Hansen) Buschman (1983); two sisters: Lillian Walls (1954) and Alphild Bergermann (2010); three brothers: Hakon Buschman (2000), Arthur Buschman (1996), and Oscar Buschman (2003); two brothers-in-law: Ben Bergermann (1986), and Ervin Steffen (1993); one sister-in-law, Ruth Buschman (2005); and by two sons-in-law: Dallas Duke (1986) and Eric Thompson (2002). The Prayer Service for Egill was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., led by Marlene VanDresar. Scripture readers were Judy Brinkmeier and Wayne Strueby, and the eulogy was delivered by Adam Duke. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., concelebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth, Fr. Lawrence DeMong, OSB, Fr. Bernard Stauber, and Fr. Emile April. Others taking part were: Jamie Buschman, crossbearer; Noreen and Wayne Strueby, scripture readers; Colleen Jenkins, intentions; Fr. Lawrence DeMong, OSB, homily; Gail Buschman and Jamie Buschman, giftbearers. Music ministry was provided by the Marysburg Assumption Church Choir. An honor guard was formed by members of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion. Pallbearers were Jack Buschman, Aaron Duke, Glen Duke, Adam Duke, Darrell Thompson, and John Brinkmeier. Interment will take place at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the Assumption Church Restoration Fund, Marysburg, SK.
