THIEMANN: Edward

The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Edward Thiemann, age 84 years of Humboldt occurred on Monday, September 22, 2014. Ed was born in Humboldt on March 26, 1930 to Paul and Clara (nee Ecker) Thiemann one of 11 children. He grew up on the family farm 2 1/2 miles east of Humboldt. Ed obtained all of his education at St. Augustine School. Ed had an adventurous spirit. Following his education accompanied by John Ollerich they hitch hiked to Ontario where they obtained employment as Vacuum Cleaner Salesmen. This experience was short lived and they returned after a year. With $20.00 in his pocket that his father gave him, he then boarded the bus and headed to Edmonton to obtain his Heavy Duty Mechanics Certificate. In 1952 after his training he came back to his roots in Saskatchewan and began employment with Hergott Farm Equipment. In 1965 Ed became a shareholder and Service Manager until 1991 when he retired. Ed was always a very community minded person who was always willing to lend a helping hand when ever needed. He was on the Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department for many years, a position he was very proud of. Over the years he was busy helping with meals on wheels, helping out with the residents at the Villa when needed and with the Crisis Care Program at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Ed had a deep faith and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was on the Parish Council. He kept active by bowling in a regular league for many years. Spending time playing a good card game with family and friends always brought out the competitive side of him. Ed loved to fish and had yearly fun filled trips with his friends to Otter Lake. Ed was always there to support his grandchildren at any of their activities. In 1990 Ed and Nora took up residency on Canada Place where Ed enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his shop. They became avid Bronco and Roughrider fans enjoying many games. Nora and Ed enjoyed many years together traveling to many places like Malaysia, Alaska and other places in Canada and the USA on Bus Tours. They loved to drive and made many trips to BC and Ontario to visit family and friends. Ed spent many hours driving around checking out the crops and scenes around the province. In 2011 Ed and Nora moved to Caleb Village where Ed thoroughly enjoyed his time visiting and having coffee with everyone. He loved to have a good laugh, share a joke or funny story from the past or present. Ed's quiet, strong, calming personality will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife; his three sons, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Ken (Judy) and their daughter Dawn (Kyle) Saunders; Bruce (Carol) and their sons Blake and Drew; Russell (Val) and family Brianna (Joal Ollivier), Timothy, and Brittany and son Kaylex; Gilbert's children, Blair (Jaime) and children Logan, Koralyn and Jesse, Jarid (Tamara) and son Konnor, and Shari; and Eric's son, Kyle Doepker (Marisa Hrycyk); mother of his children, Bella Thiemann; Nora's four children and their families; sisters, Agnes Hilgers and Joan (Ron) Schreiner; brother, Bert (Sylvia) Thieman; brother-in-law, Clarence Knaus; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by his parents Paul and Clara (nee Ecker) Thiemann; three children, Gilbert Thiemann, Beverley Thiemann and Eric Thiemann; brothers and sisters Rose (Tony) Zimmerman, Ben (Mona) Thiemann, Ann (Frank) Kraft, Joe Thiemann, Mary (Tony) Ell, Betty (Gilbert) Kuemper, Marj Knaus and Herb Hilgers. The Prayer Service for Ed was held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt. Memorial donations in Ed's memory may be directed to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or St. Augustine Parish Building Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
