STRUNK: Mrs. Eda (nee Nordick) Strunk of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, (and formerly of Englefeld, SK), passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, August 5, 2011. She was 91 years of age. Eda will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her ten children: Roger (Dianne) Strunk of Englefeld; Karen (Pat) Pitka of Saskatoon; Myrna (Marvin) Humenny of Saskatoon; Connie (Lynwood) Behiel of Watson; Norman (Darlene) Strunk of Saskatoon; Randy (Brenda) Strunk of Englefeld; Charmaine Koenig of Watson; Tim (Lorna) Strunk of Englefeld; Marianne (Daryl) Schwartz of Saskatoon; and Joanne (Barry) Schulte of Estevan. Eda enjoyed quality time with her 38 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Rose Schmitz of Watson. Eda was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 68 years, Peter Strunk (February 6, 2011); her parents, Henry and Elizabeth (nee Breker) Nordick; and by five brothers and four sisters: August Nordick, John Nordick, Henry Nordick, Joseph Nordick, Ferdinand Nordick, Anna Athmer, Marie ven der Buhs, Elizabeth Buhs, and Clara Regnitter. Eda was born to Henry and Elizabeth (nee Breker) Nordick at Englefeld on March 9, 1920. She married Peter Strunk in 1942 and, together, they raised ten children. Eda was a remarkable wife and mother. Her family was her passion in life, and she was the glue that held them together. Living on the farm with very few trips into town, she became an experienced gardener, perfecting the art of growing vegetables and flowers in abundance. Raising her family would have her relocate several times, with a move to Penticton, back to Englefeld to a new farm, and then into town, all the while staying true to the strong, compassionate, patient woman that everyone knew her to be. Adding to her most important job as a homemaker, she was also a janitor of the highschool in Englefeld for many years, provided child care, offered room and board for local teachers, operated a greenhouse in town, and worked as a caregiver in a nursing home. She was also involved with the C.W.L. Eda truly was a "Proverbs 31" woman! Other pastimes she enjoyed were crocheting, knitting, sewing, fishing and playing cards, particularly Canasta. "The Strunk family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge for the wonderful care they gave to Eda. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts." The Prayer Service for Eda was held at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Englefeld, on Monday, August 8, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., led by Marie ven der Buhs and Patsy Knafelc. Scripture readers were Rina Murray and Corinne Harcourt, and words of remembrance were given by Karen Pitka. The Funeral Mass was offered at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Darryl Millette. Others taking part were: Cali Murray, cross bearer; Danielle ven der Buhs and Taevan Athmer, altar servers; Rina Murray and Corinne Harcourt, scripture readers; Marianne Schwartz and Joanne Schulte, intentions; Tanya Dixon and Alicia Kavalench, gift bearers; Brenda Strunk, eucharistic minister; Ray and Alvina Ehlert and Marie ven der Buhs, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by soloist Anna Marie Moellenbeck, organist Sandra Athmer, and the Holy Guardian Angels Parish Choir. An honor guard was formed by the members of the C.W.L. Pallbearers were Troy Behiel, Garret Schulte, Benjamin Schwartz, Christopher Strunk, Josh Strunk, Dean Strunk and Jason Pitka. Interment followed at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Cemetery Fund or to the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge Heritage Garden Fund. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK.
