Dr. Allan Richard SuttonJuly 1, 1945 - September 14, 2011 It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Allan Sutton announces his passing on September 14, 2011, at the age of 66 in Prince Albert. Dr. Sutton was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan on July 1, 1945. He was raised on his family's farm in the Viking District, northeast of Kinistino. He lived with his loving parents, Charlie and Blanche Sutton, as well as his siblings Jeannette (Clarence) Bowes, Paulette (Bob) Evenson, Lyle (Wendy) Sutton, Delphine (Bill) Soulier, Carolyn (Bruce) McLean, Dianna Sutton, and Cheryle Sutton. He was predeceased by his brother, David, and his parents. Growing up with six sisters and a brother, he enjoyed his childhood and spoke fondly of the many antics and pastimes on the farm. While in school, Dad participated in many activities and especially enjoyed skipping for his curling team at university. Dad graduated in 1969 with the first class of the Western College of Veterinarian Medicine, where he was awarded his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from U of S Chancellor, John Diefenbaker. Dad moved to Alberta to practice where he married Caroll Nord. They enjoyed many ski trips to the nearby Rocky Mountains as well as to the states. Together, they moved to Humboldt, Saskatchewan to raise their family and run a vibrant veterinary practice, Park Acres Animal Clinic Ltd. He loved to BS with the farmers and spend good times with friends. The three of us, Marnee (Trevor) Brick, Greg (Michelle) Sutton, and Carmen (Eric) Heggstrom, were born in Humboldt. We kids loved growing up on our acreage and watching our dad help animals. Our family bike rides, nightly swims, and vacations were favourites every summer. Dad enjoyed taking us to the lake where we relished our bumpy boat rides, waterskiing, and fishing. In the winter, he took us cross country and down hill skiing. During that time, dad served as the President of the Liberal Association for the Saskatoon-Humboldt Constituency. In his later years, he moved to Prince Albert. He travelled extensively around the world with his highlights being Asia, Europe, and New Zealand. Throughout his life, dad entertained multiple hobbies. He was an avid golfer and he loved cross country skiing through the forest trails. Long distance walking was a common part of each day. As a life learner, he was constantly reading books and research. Dad could recite poetry from heart, with a favourite being Robert Service's "The Cremation of Sam McGee". He enjoyed speculating the stock market and he appreciated music. We treasure our memories of dad playing his guitar while he sang. Above all, our memory of dad's loud, infectious laugh and funny stories will bring us warmth and smiles. Dad found great joy in visiting us and his grandchildren, Taylor, Aiden, Cacia, and Belle. He anticipated welcoming his new granddaughter, Abigail, and often called to see when she was planning to arrive. Our greatest joy came from knowing his unconditional, unending love for us. Dad's entire family, including numerous nieces and nephews, will cherish their precious time with him. Dad, you are so loved and missed.Funeral service will be held, Wednesday September 21st at 2:00 pm from the Kinistino Half Century Club, Kinistino, SK., with Nora Vadress officiating.Memorial contributions, in memory of Allan, may be directed to the Kinistino Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Melfort Funeral Home Ltd. of Melfort, SK. 306-752-2714. www.melfortfuneralhome.com
