The death of Mr. Daniel Henry Boscher of the St. Gregor district, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, on Sunday, March 18, 2012. He was 79 years of age. Daniel was born to Frank and Theresia (nee Jaud) Boscher on August 7, 1932, at home on their farm in the St. Gregor district, the third son to arrive to carry on the task of farming. He attended Mintern School for his entire eight grades - one of those now obsolete one-room schools (grades 1 to 8), taught by only one teacher! In the early 1950s, to supplement his income, Dan went to Ontario to the logging camps. In 1955, pursuing a new adventure, he, along with his younger brother Robert, went to the oil patch in Violet Grove, AB. In 1960, Dan returned to the farm to take up farming with his father and brothers, eventually taking over the family farm, raising grain, cattle and pigs. He truly enjoyed the time he spent with his nieces and nephews, watching them grow to adulthood. "We have all had many enjoyable occasions at the farm - socializing and having fun with family and neighbors, playing cards, having a few drinks, and making wine, amongst other things! It was a very good time to laugh and joke and banter back and forth, AND THAT'S THE OTHER THING." Dan loved keeping his feet on the ground - dry ground - and staying close to home. He continued living on the farm until about two weeks ago when he was hospitalized. Even during that time, Dan was thinking about the farm and said: "What are we going to seed this year?" Daniel will be lovingly remembered by three brothers and two sisters: Paul (Louise) Boscher and Edwin (Thelma) Boscher, all of St. Gregor; Robert Boscher of Drayton Valley, AB; Marie G. ven der Buhs of Englefeld, SK; and Hildegard (Keith) Martin of Saskatoon, SK; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces-and-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Theresia (nee Jaud) Boscher; in-laws: Myrna Boscher and Henry ven der Buhs; and by nephew Myron ven der Buhs. The Prayer Service for Daniel was held at St. Gregory R.C. Church, St. Gregor, on Friday, March 23, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., led by Glenn Taphorn. Scripture readers were Louise Boscher and Barbara Levesque and the eulogy was delivered by Mavis Hartell. Music ministry was provided by Suzanne Taphorn and Barbara Levesque. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Gregory R.C. Church on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., concelebrated by Fr. Darryl Millette, Fr. Rudolph Novecosky, OSB, and Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB. Others taking part were: David Boscher, cross bearer; Dylan and Danielle ven der Buhs, altar servers; Lyle Boscher and Louise Boscher, scripture readers; Keith Martin, intentions; JoAnn Shaw and Vanessa Ollerich, giftbearers; Judy Plag and Elaine Lueke, memorial table attendants. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Dan's life." Active pallbearers were Kenneth, Melvin, Randy, Lyle, Roger, Vernon and Vincent Boscher, Tim and Dale Martin, and Rodney ven der Buhs. Interment followed at St. Gregory R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Gregory R.C. Cemetery Fund or the Humboldt District Hospital General Equipment Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
