CODY: Clifford William

It is with great sorrow that the family of Clifford William Cody of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Muenster, SK), announces his death on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK. He was 76 years of age. Clifford was born May 15, 1937, at home on the farm in the Pilger District to Emmet and Evelyn (nee Wirtz) Cody. His first six years were spent there before the family moved to Methley, Manitoba. After high school, Cliff worked in a sawmill in British Columbia, the oil patch around Estevan, and in construction as a labourer and painter. He then returned to Manitoba where he began his teaching career. In 1964, Cliff returned to the Humboldt area to be near the rest of his family after his father's death. He got a teaching position in Lake Lenore where Yvonne was teaching and they became good friends. In 1965, Cliff transferred to Fulda where he took on the position of principal and the following year Yvonne joined the teaching staff. They became engaged that Christmas and married the following August 15, 1967. The first few years of marriage took them to La Loche, Saskatoon, St. Benedict and then Prince Albert where they spent 26 years raising their family and teaching. Cliff retired from teaching in 1991, and in 1997 they moved to Muenster. As Cliff's health declined he and Yvonne moved to Wolverine Heights. In 2010, Cliff became a resident of St. Mary's Villa. He had a lifelong passion to learn. Some of his favorite pastimes were spent reading about science and science fiction and he was also interested in technology, especially computers. Cliff loved playing chess and started chess clubs in Prince Albert and Muenster. He had an incredible sense of humor, even right up to the end. He lived life by the book and lead by example. Cliff will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Yvonne (nee Loehr) Cody of Muenster, SK; daughter, Shannon Cody (Morné Keyter) of Regina, SK; son, Shawn Cody (Nelda Delorme) of Moose Jaw, SK; grandchildren, Haley Cody, Julianna and Jordyn Delorme; brother, Dan (Jean) Cody of Humboldt, SK; and brother-in-law, Terry Loehr of Prince Albert, SK. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Keith Haugerud; parents, Emmet and Evelyn (nee Wirtz) Cody; sister, Donna Loehr; and by two brothers in infancy. The Prayer Service for Clifford was held at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cathedral, Muenster, on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., presided by Garry Loehr. Music ministry was provided by Myrna Britz and organist Sheryl Korte. The scripture reader was Marilee Sterner and the eulogy was delivered by Bernie Doepker. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cathedral on Monday, September 23, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., concelebrated by Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB, Fr. Lawrence DeMong, OSB, and Fr. Bernard Stauber. Others taking part were: Grant Engele, crossbearer; Elaine Zimmer, intentions; Don Loehr and Bonnie Loehr, scripture readers; Brenda Zimmer and Sheila Moormann, giftbearers; and Kathy Wasserman and Joyce Kimman, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by pianist Kristy Waldner, music director Gail Rueve, and the St. Peter's Cathedral Choir. An honor guard was formed by members of the Superannuated Teachers of Humboldt. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Cliff's life". Active pallbearers were Damian Zimmer, James Zimmer, Barry Engele, Dion Engele, John Mueller and Max Mueller. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Parkinson Society Canada or the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund.
