Charles "Chuck" Joseph WalbyNovember 3, 1939 - September 26, 2011The death of Mr. Charles "Chuck" Joseph Walby of Pilger, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, on Monday, September 26, 2011. He was 71 years of age. Chuck was born on November 3, 1939, to Herbert and Elizabeth (nee Menzel) Walby in Watson. He grew up on the family farm and attended Rosebush Elementary School. Chuck was only 17 years old when his father died, so he had to quit school to take over the operation of the farm and, for the next year, he helped to take care of his siblings. He then moved to Edmonton, AB, where he worked as a truck driver and delivery man. In 1966, Chuck met his first wife, Faye McRorie. They moved to Thompson, MB, in 1969, where they raised their four children. For the first few years, Chuck was employed at the INCO mine and then worked for the City of Thompson until his retirement. In 1993, he moved to Humboldt and once again entered the workforce. Chuck worked at numerous jobs until he found one he really enjoyed, a labourer for the City of Humboldt. In 2001, he met Sharon Nordick who was working at A & W. On May 11, 2002, Chuck and Sharon were married. They made their home in Pilger. Chuck fully retired in 2003. Over the years, Chuck enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. He especially loved fishing, wildlife, playing cards, going out for coffee, spending leisure time with his family at Christmas listening to music, and traveling. Many trips were made to Brandon, Thompson and Flin Flon in Manitoba and Prince George in British Columbia to visit family and friends. Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon Ann (nee Nordick) Walby of Pilger; his four children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild: Mark (Corena) Walby of Fredericton, NB, and children Lea and Nathan; Trent (Charlie) Walby of Langley, BC, and children Molly and Megan; Brad (Pam) Walby of Saskatoon, SK, and children Kiana and Myles; and Maxine (Steven) Walby of Brandon, MB, and family, Ian, and Nancy and her son Ryan; one brother and three sisters: Ron (Brenda) Walby of Earl Grey, SK; Georgina (Mel) Reid of Edmonton, AB; Caroline Pulvermacher (Phil) of Sorrento, BC; and Theresa (Bernard) Dobmeier of Pilger; sister-in-law, Donna (Noel) Lizee of Lake Lenore, SK; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Elizabeth (nee Menzel) Walby; and by two brothers: Dennis Walby and Edward Walby. The Prayer Service for Chuck was held at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Watson, on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., led by Milt Kerpan and Willy Gaudet. Scripture readers were Larry Walby and Ron Walby, and the eulogy was delivered by Jody Dobmeier. The Funeral Mass was offered on Friday, September 30, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Darryl Millette. Others taking part were: Ryan Lessmeister, crossbearer; Larry Walby and Kim Fisher, scripture readers; Trent Walby, eulogist; Emily Lessmeister and Sarah Lessmeister, giftbearers. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Chuck's life." Active pallbearers were Shawn Dobmeier, Owen Walby, Jesse Walby, David Fisher, Dustin Fisher and Ashley Pengelly.
