WOLSFELD: Celine

July 7, 1923 – February 2, 2016

The death of Celine Wolsfeld of Saskatoon, SK, (and formerly of Muenster, SK), occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. She was 92 year of age. Celine was born on Saturday, July 7, 1923, to Peter and Louise (nee Butala) Wolsfeld at Humboldt. She grew up in Lake Lenore, SK, and attended Lake Lenore School. Following her education, Celine stayed home to take care of her parents. Eventually, she took a hair dressing course, purchased a building in Lake Lenore, and started her own hair dressing shop. Celine also continued to be a caretaker for her parents. After her mother’s death, she moved to Humboldt and worked for Fr. Francis Lohmer, OSB. Celine continued with that occupation until Fr. Francis’ death 40 years later, on January 28, 2003. As well as Lake Lenore and Humboldt, Celine resided in several other communities, including Watson, Cudworth, Annaheim, and Muenster. She moved to Trinity Manor in Saskatoon in October 2015. To know her was to love her, and many people in those communities were blessed by her humility, kindness, inspiration and true friendship. Celine was also known for her dedicated volunteer work in the areas where she lived. Still active and enthusiastic at the age of 87, in 2010, she was also among a group of people who went to the Village of Ussongo, Tanzania, in Africa to help in the hospital and school. Over the years, her favorite leisure activities were reading, crocheting and traveling. Of utmost importance to Celine was her faith and devotion to the Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the Oblate of St. Benedict, and a C.W.L. member in Lake Lenore, Cudworth, Annaheim, and Humboldt. The words from Matthew 25:21, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”, could easily apply to Celine. Celine will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by one sister, Delores LeJan of Saskatoon, SK; two sisters-in-law: Rose Wolsfeld of Humboldt, SK, and Albina Wolsfeld of Saskatoon, SK; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Louise (nee Butala) Wolsfeld; three brothers and three sisters: Mathias Wolsfeld (in infancy), Alfred Wolsfeld, Louis Wolsfeld, Marie (George) Martin, Dolores Wolsfeld (in childhood), and Dorothy Wolsfeld; and by brother-in-law, Lucien LeJan. The Prayer Service for Celine was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at 7:30 p.m., led by Nestor Trach. Scripture readers were Amber Symchyck and Patti Seto. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Abbot Peter Novecosky, OSB and concelebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB, Fr. Cosmas Epifano, OSB, Fr. Lawrence DeMong, OSB, and Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB. Others taking part were: Keith LeJan, cross bearer; Amber Symchyck and Patti Seto, scripture readers; Mary Symchyck, intentions; Louise Munn and Ramona Lang, gift bearers; Theresa and Chris Marshall and Jeanne LeJan, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by director, Loretta Schugmann, organist Dolores Hinz, vocalists Norman Duerr, Angela Yakimoski, and Michelle Peters, and the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. An honor guard was formed by members of the C.W.L. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Celine’s life”. Active pallbearers were Michael Wolsfeld, Kelly Wolsfeld, Terry Seto, Tom Seto, Shaun Symchyck, and Ed Symchyck. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to either St. Peter’s Abbey or the Catholic Missions of Canada. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
